‘Once upon a time, there was a wizard and that wizard had a dream. His dream was to spark kid’s imagination through the telling of amazing tales. So, with his pointy hat on his head and his long and slender fingers, he picked up a pen and began to write. The candle flickered as the pages turned one after the other, night after night.
He journeyed long and journeyed far. He went all the way to the mountains, through the forests and valleys. He travelled through the mists of time and through the wonders of space. He met dragons and ghosts and a myriad of magic creatures along the way. And, he did it all without ever leaving his chair.
As the images ran wild through his mind, his pen scratched away on the paper. Then one day, after many years and much toil, he had done it. He had created wondrous books to ignite kid’s imagination and to help them to think and grow and dream.
And just in case you wondered, the wizard still journeys through story world and scribbles by candlelight to this day.’
This second installment of the Dreamland Trilogy was simply wonderful. The character growth and maturity of the story as a whole was wonderfully executed. You can see how the tale is growing from a sweet, fantasy of light and dreams to a Harrowing battle against the dark and I am eager to see how our little hero holds up against the horrible Hermantrude! There are so awesome new friends, and plenty of our old favorites too! Very well done! A well deserved 5 stars!
Eric must learn all he can to save Dreamland from the Darkness. Barry Brunswick has managed in this series to tap into the imagination of a child. It's so much fun to see where this series is going to go next. These are easy reads and most children would find themselves drawn into the world of Dreamland, many adults too.
A truly remarkable novel - another fantasy adventure novel for all ages. Barry has created another epic novel in Dreamland Part 2. I do struggle with book series but this author has continued the adventure awesomely. A My new favourite characters in this story are the cloud people and Toggle and Gumdrop - no spoliers! Read the book to find out who they are :)
Where will Eric's journey take him (and us! )in Book number 3?!
Dreamland Part 2: The Masters of Light, the second instalment in The Dreamland Trilogy by Barry S. Brunswick, is simply glorious. After finding himself in a magical realm and discovering his destiny in the first book, Eric now must seek out the Dream Queens and learn to harness the power of light before the Nightmares consume Dreamland completely. But darkness is always one step ahead, and the danger feels greater than ever. After falling in love with the first book, I didn’t think the series could get any better – but I was wrong. Once again, I was swept away into a world of magic, adventure, and imagination. I was completely immersed in Eric’s journey, watching him learn and grow, laughing and crying with him, and adoring the marvellously eccentric friends he meets along the way. The story balances excitement and warmth beautifully, with powerful messages woven seamlessly through every chapter.
Barry Brunswick has a remarkable gift for storytelling. His writing captures the humour, wonder, and courage of childhood with effortless charm. He writes for children in a way that truly respects their imagination – full of wit, adventure, and genuine feeling – while offering plenty for adults to enjoy too. His world-building is vivid and imaginative, his dialogue sparkles with life, and his sense of fun is infectious. This was an absolute joy to read, and I can’t wait to see how the trilogy concludes. I highly recommend The Masters of Light to both children and adults. If you love stories filled with magic, excitement, laughter, and woven with powerful messages, you’ll love this one.
