A dangerous evolution in the game threatens Devim's new life. NPC monsters are rallying. And they have one Beast Queen bent on ruling them all! In the months since the Goblin King's defeat, Devrim has settled into a peaceful existence in the now prosperous village of New Haven. But prosperity invites challenge, and challenge creates chaos. And the world of Lorian is about to be tipped into war that it may never recover from.
The only way to save Lorian is to dust off his old skills and remember the hunt. But building a home has left him rusty–complacent, which is no way to be when predators are on the prowl.
A werewolf army amasses, threatening creatures and humans alike. Whispers of goblin clans unifying. And the pleas of a living forest make for interesting times.
Can Devrim hone his skills in time to face the Beast Queen and prevent a war? Because if he doesn't, the hunter will become the hunted!
"An awesome debut to the LitRPG scene. R.R. Virdi's, Monster Slayer Online: Goblin King, is a beautifully crafted story that had me up late reading to see what came next!" -- Luke Chmilenko, author of the ground-breaking LitRPG series, Ascend Online. ★★★★★

I downloaded the audiobook Friday and Finished it by Monday. This was a very fun listening experience. Jeff Hayes' performance was excellent and constant with his performance from book one. The established rules in this LitRPG world are followed and are added upon to expand the world. This time around I could have used fewer status updates but that is a very minor issue. I liked the development of the main character. The ending was satisfying but it may have wrapped up too nicely to leave room for a sequel. I do enjoy R.R. Virdi's writing and his ability to characterize through dialogue both internally and interpersonally. His ability to imbue a fictional world with contemplations about life is very interesting. I will gladly continue to seek out his novels.
Beast Queen was a fun follow up to The Goblin King. Once again, Dev got a satisfying arc and the mechanics introduced this time around we especially interesting, bringing in a tower defense/RTS vibe that I very much enjoyed. Unfortunately, the pacing wasn't quite as solid this time around as there were some larger peaks and valleys. Still, overall, a very fun read and a satisfying conclusion to second book, which isn't easy to pull off.
Beast Queen was an excellent sequel to Goblin King. Devrim grows as a character struggling to juggle being a leader and a killer. His introspection trying to avoid turning into another Goblin King while enjoying his new life gave him more depth. The world building grew in Beast Queen enough that makes me want to read more and I hope there eventually is.
A man trying to overcome, to become a true leader, fighting his base nature to destroy. How to overcome a character attributes of death and destruction? Can he find a way out of the constraints placed upon him? A hunter trying to bring peace to a world that was never designed to be peaceful. A good read.
