A really enjoyable romantic suspense novel with an awkwardly shy heroine, Professor Gigi Brennan, who doesn’t have much experience with men. However, she is super-smart, and the only one who can complete an extremely complicated scientific formula that the bad guy in the story is after, therefore, making her a target. Hero Detective Hudson Kramer is not very tall, he’s unlucky with women and always finding himself relegated to friend status. But Hud is heroic and brave and he’s so very protective of heroine “G” (his nickname for Gigi which I thought was adorable). When this twosome got together the chemistry between them ignited and they made such a super-cute pair. This was a very entertaining and suspenseful story with not the usual type of hero and heroine that’s present in most romance novels, which made for a refreshing change of pace. A really good one.

This was one book I’ll come back to read again! Read others synopsis as so many rewrite better than I could.

Two years ago, a shy smart woman, and a sexy detective spend a fantastic evening at the bar. Being that they were two very different people it only ended with a kiss 💋 that neither of them could forget. He knew she would be the forever type of woman and he was afraid to make that commitment. She was a brainiac, but didn’t do romance, relationships or friendships. They both spent a lot of their life taking care of their siblings.

Then on a rainy night after a party, she finds het boss, who was like a father dead at their offices/college.

She’s a woman that is stronger than anyone realized or gave her credit for minus her brain. She’s a smart woman in Science but in the relationship department not so much.
He’s a man who seems to never “find his true match. A detective that always seems to attract the kind of girl that either brings trouble or breaks his heart.

He wasn’t suppose to be the one to interview her but out she walked right into his arms.
Because of her boss, selfish employees, she is now in more danger han anyone realizes. She’s come to him in the middle of the night after almost her house was almost broke into. He’s now the detective on the case but suddenly becomes her bodyguard & the guard of her body.

They really try to stay away from one another, but that forgotten kiss 💋 becomes one he definitely wants to remember from now on but is he wiling to take the chance ?

.She knew she met her true match two years ago, but she’s not quite sure how to go after what she really wants. Until she asks him for a fling to show her what it’s like. Her heart was already his but she wouldn’t tell him that.

. . . But will she come up with the formula. . . Will he be able to keep her safe. . . . And will the hearts of two kindred souls take a chance on one another once things do settle down?

I liked how it was a story add-on from her Kansas City PD books - this one is one I’ll be picking up from time to time for another chance read and be a part of their love story.

Julie Miller gives us another exciting romantic mystery in Target On Her Back (Harlequin Intrigue April 2020), proving once again that nobody does romantic mysteries better than her. She's an instant buy for me and she never disappoints.

Hudson "Hud" Kramer may be short of stature but he's large of heart and grit and he never gives up. Professor Virginia "Gigi" Brennan is a brilliant but endearingly insecure scientist who stumbles on her dying mentor/boss as he has been stabbed. She quickly attracts the killer's attention. Hud & Gigi have met before, having shared a night playing pool, and he really gets what makes her tick. Both were too scared to pursue a further acquaintance but neither forgot the other. This is kind of a 2nd start for them.

Hud is a terrific, sexy romantic hero and is a trifle shorter than Gigi, not the strapping specimen one is used to reading about winning the heroine's love. Gigi is painfully shy and her social skills are practically non existent and she feels safe with Hud. But these 2 just fit together. And Hud isn't put off by her brains - or that she's a little taller than him.

Incidentally, one of the things I appreciate about Ms. Miller is her ability to give us characters you normally don't see in a starring romantic role and makes us care about them. Her characters have a "common man" (or woman) appeal to them. Over the course of her career with Harlequin Intrigue she's given us great main characters like a recovered drug addict heroine, a young cop who's the sole bread winner for her family, a cancer survivor, scarred veterans, a single father struggling to help his son, a hero who spent a chunk of his youth in a wheelchair, & many more. She asks all of her characters to rise above their circumstances and become the hero. I enjoy going along for the ride. (She also drops little cameo appearances from former characters.)

This is a 5 star read, all the way. Action, romance, and a satisfying mystery.

Well... it's not bad. I don't actually remember the H but that may be because there are so many in this series. I suppose if i did have gripes, they would be along the lines of...why, after someone attempted a break in, and later a car exploded in the driveway, was the h still staying at home? Seems to me that at some point removing her from a situation where she's so accessible would be the wise course of action. But I'm not a cop; what do I know?

Beyond that, the story itself is decent. In some ways though, it reminds me of The Saint. May be the combination of nerdy h and developing a power source.

This book was so much fun to read. I had been reading a lot of heavy reads lately and this was just the right amount of intrigue, romance and fun. It was the perfect pick for me. The mystery had me guessing until the end and I loved the character development for each of the characters. Gigi being the awkward introvert was awesome, because I am similar in nature with her, but definitely not as smart. I also got the best imagery from reading about her nosey neighbor lady with her little pomeranian. I had a good chuckle reading about her and thought of some people I know who are just like that too. Julie Miller is my favorite Harlequin author. I love the light, and fun mysteries her books offer with some romance thrown in. I also enjoy how characters from her previous books show up in the newer ones too.

Shy Professor Gigi Brenna finds her boss dying and then becomes a target for the same killer, but who is that killer? And what her boss tried to tell her before he expired isn't helping. Can Detective Hudson Kramer keep her safe while she tries to figure things out?

Then she starts receiving threatening phone calls that give her only days to turn over what is sought: the formula for a technological marvel. But can she identify that formula, and what if she fakes it and gives it to the killer? Will she live to watch him/them get caught?

Hud and Gigi were cute! Oddly, what stood out to me-besides the great suspense-was the height and personality difference. (A guy shorter than the girl just isn’t something typically seen in romance books!) Hud is 5’8, super protective and always rescuing the damsel in distress. Gigi is 5’9, brainy and socially awkward. (Okay, both of them are still taller than me, but it really doesn’t take much, lol)

Best of all, they worked well together!

Brains and brawn according to Hud, but don’t be fooled since they both had smarts coming out the pockets. Add in the thrill of suspense, lovely chemistry, and some well-intentioned jabs on dating making Target On Her Back a page turning read!

Intense suspense surrounding one of the most delightful couples who not only had sizzling chemistry and entertaining banter but had a connection that swept them both off their feet. An absolute delight!

Another great book by Julie Miller. I did receive this book as part of a review crew, but since I have over 50 of her books, I would certainly have purchased this one. Gigi’s professor boss was attacked and she found him right before he died. When the police arrived, the detective was Hudson, a man she had spent time with once before. The professor gave Gigi a code that he expected her to use to complete the scientific formula. Read as Gigi and Hudson try to keep her safe, complete the formula and work on their complicated relationship. I really, really liked the interaction between them.

Terrific read

Another great story from Julie Miller! Jud and Gigi are perfect for each other, Gigi is a genius, but has no social skills and is absolutely adorable. Hud has a terrible record with the ladies, always put in the friend zone. Add in a couple of murders a bomb or two and this book is so enjoyable!

Hud and Gigi met two years ago at a bar, sharing a kiss at the end of the night after he drives her home. In the present, they meet again but under totally different circumstances: Gigi finds her colleague stabbed and dying.

At that time, Hud believed they were total opposites to have any kind of relationship. 𝒲𝑜𝓊𝓁𝒹 𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓈 𝓈𝑒𝒸𝑜𝓃𝒹 𝑒𝓃𝒸𝑜𝓊𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒸𝒽𝒶𝓃𝑔𝑒 𝒽𝒾𝓈 𝓂𝒾𝓃𝒹? With his luck with the ladies, he probably will end up being friend-zoned or with a broken heart. Still, he never forgot that night with Gigi.

Gigi has always been the awkward one; she just doesn’t get many social behaviors and spends more time in her head than getting involved with other people. Her life is her job and her sister. Even so, she never forgot the connection she felt with Hud that night two years ago. Meting him this time will make her realize she has to go for what she wants—and no, we’re not talking about her professional life.

I liked 𝒢𝒾𝑔𝒾 because I identified with her, I’m socially awkward. When I have to, I get the job done but it’s not something I enjoy doing. 𝐻𝓊𝒹 was a little too insecure for my liking, he’s a good guy and very protective but at the same time, his insecurities are taking a toll on him. Well, it’s kind of understandable with his dating history but still.

About the story, I got one of the two suspects of the murder. Like Gigi, you just feel when someone is…weird. My only problem was the 48 hours in which the story unfolds. It helps that they had a previous meeting and left an impression on the other but…I wanted more time. That’s just me.
