This book includes more than 75 hikes in this spectacular country, from the western canyons and badlands to the soaring heights of the Cloud Peak Massif. Detailed hike descriptions, helpful maps, and elevation profiles make this the only guide you'll need to enjoy hiking in the Cloud Peak Wilderness.
I reserve the right to lower this further... This text does what seems like a good job of describing many hiking routes through the Bighorns, but the text and maps disagree vehemently and often. I am concerned there might be even more problems once I'm actually on the ground. Of course, the text is also 25 years old. I will definitely be investing in some maps to complement this shaky resource (which, to be fair, the book itself recommended).
Good and very useful as a starting point for a backpack in my mountains, but old enough that you need more reliable sources….complementary maps. I enjoy the explanations of how the passes, lakes and terrain formed. I always consult this first and then move to maps and OnX to plan my trips
The Big Horn Mountains are hard to hike for us flatlanders. The trails aren't marked very well and with all of the two-wheel tracks, it is easy to get lost. This book is a godsend and must be kept in your backpack while out exploring!
