I guess I would have known more about this anthology of five short stories before I began reading it. Each story has several chapters that gets you started, but then you need to purchase the next book to continue with the story. Also, most of the stories are rather depressing. The first book "Mosaics: Shattered" is the story of Clayton whose father, aunts, and grandparents abandoned he and his mother (for whatever reason). They live in a run down trailer and his mother is very ill. Clayton tries mowing lawns to earn money to buy groceries for them. School is mandatory and he must make it through his junior year to be able to end the work program and make some money. He is bullied and constantly getting beat up. The teacher does not even pay any attention to his bleeding nose, bruised face and bleeding abdominal wound from having gotten kicked repeatedly, but instead gives him detention and tells him that if he is late once more, he will get kicked out of school . . . . then he and his mother would be homeless. A girl appears out of nowhere in the Rec Room and tells him that he must help her save the world. "Odyssey: The Fated Ones" is about a teacher "Kensie" who keeps having nightmares and nothing seems to help. Her therapist tells her that she must take time off and is going to put her on stronger medication. Then Agent James Ryker appears and tells her that she is a very powerful time traveler since she should not be able to travel while asleep and that he wants her help in finding a powerful orb that caused The Event since they do not want it to fall into evil hands. "Manifest Destiny" takes place after The Event when a small group of people and a baby are underwater in a secret military installation where they have lived for a year after the cataclysmic event. They've discovered that there are still people alive above and have to decide whether it is safer to stay below or try to get above and discover what has happened to humanity. "The Guardian: Reflections" Scout Ainsley is considered by most to be insane. No one believes him that he was on Atlantic Island when The Event took place. He was injected to make him stronger and trained to fight and then witnessed the horrible devastation The Event caused. His parents, teacher, and therapist monitor his every move. He finds a stray dog and convinces his mother the pet is therapeutic. He meets a girl "Leyna" who seems to understand his need to get answers and to reach Atlantic Island, The Event, a certain archeologist who had found some Olmec relics that were to be displayed at Atlantic Island and has now disappeared and the Mayans. She is helping him with his research and reveals to him that she is a time traverler. The last is a Preview of Atlantic Island: Multiverse Academy - The Elite where Quinn Miller lost both of her parents due to someone carelessly driving and texting. They left her with a house that was paid off and investments and life insurance that gives her money to live, but she is absolutely lost in grief and does nothing but drink and smoke dope for a year until Agent Rossi appears to her in the part and wants to recruit her telling her that she is a powerful time traveler. Quinn has not trusted anyone in a long time and is not at all sure about going with her to even investigate this agency Agent Rossi has told her about, so she is given time to decide. It is not that these stories are not well written, but just way too short and rather depressing.
