A Festival of Words
Every year our village holds a festival on the village green - the, aptly named, Dickens Heath Festival on the Green. In 2019, to celebrate the festival and the launch of JAMS Publishing, we held a small, local writing competition.
We invited open themed, creative fiction entries in three age categories, adults, 7 to 11 and 12 to 17. Dickens Heath Parish council kindly donated the prize money for the children's competion. Entries were anonymised and judged by us, using an objective marking system which looked at characterisation, plot, theme, setting and atmosphere, mechanics, writing quality and passion.
This anthology includes the winning entries as well as some of our own work.
