It is is an action-packed, hard science fiction thriller, with twists and turns in almost every chapter. Written with intelligence, humour, a dash of romance and a twist of time travel thrown in for good measure, it is a thoroughly engaging and compelling read. This third instalment in the series is widely regarded as the best yet!If you enjoyed the movies "The Martian", "A.I.", "I, Robot", "Ad Astra", "Passengers", "Supernova" or "Interstellar" you will love this book! Similarly, if you enjoyed the books "Children of Time", "Winter World", "The Enceladus Mission" or any of the classic space exploration stories by sci fi masters such as Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, & Arthur C Clarke, then this is the book for you!
This series has been one of the best Sci-fi series I have read. With KU I can explore new authors and have found a new favorite. This series follows Zac as he discovers new worlds after human conflict makes Earth a wasteland. This book is the 3rd and Zac, Kit, Keo, Nash, and the gang are desparate to save humanity and destroy EI that has decided the lives and fate of humankind for thousands of years. Their journey will bring them back to wear it all began in our solar system. The weight of all humanity is in their hands. No spoilers! The characters are so well developed you feel. like you are one of the crew. The story itself is amazing, space travel, wormholes, time dilation, and DNA changes necessary for humans to survive for all this time, yet it made sense. There was actual science used and it was not over explained or extreme scientific jargon. The author is able to make you the reader not only believe in the possibility but feel you are there experiencing it along with the characters. Fantastic series and I am so excited to learn there is another book coming out soon because one thing you will notice even through the passage of time is human nature never changes and fighting sadly seems inevitable. Wonderfully written series Mr. Simington. Thank you for the journey!
I found this 4 book series very compelling from the first few pages. It is a Star Wars type of tale spanning thousands of years and many light years through space. The characters are all very unique and their interactions and relationships hold the story together. The books remind me of some of the Golden Age SF of the 1950’s when action and adventure with scientific undertones ruled the genre. The books offer spectacular and imaginative scenery of other worlds and believable explanations for plot development. All in all I highly recommend the series for great escapist Science Fiction.
Zac has to deal with a relationship hiccup, while the ever-increasing threat of the EI looms over the planet and the rest of humanity. I felt too much time was spent dealing with Zac's personal marriage problems, it felt like I was reading a self-help book on marriage counseling. However, the other part of the book, the sci-fi part was decent enough and helped me through the tough times, to reach the conclusion. As there are no half measures in the My rating part, I'd give it 3.5 stars.
A solid continuation to the series. Interesting character development which unfortunately in places takes presidence over the main plot. That said it does give much insight as to why the characters behave as they do. Only winge I have is how easily the big bad developed through the series is dealt with but this might be clarified in the fourth and final book.
