Core Curricular Tie: Science
Explanation:
Part of the science for several grade levels, including my third grade level, is life cycles. I would use this book as a start for the unit. It contains not only life cycle information but also multiple fascinating facts ladybugs. This should help interest the students in the unit right from the start. That always makes teaching more enjoyable for one and all.
Rationale:
I chose this particular book because of the particular life cycle discussed. As I mentioned before, several grade levels discuss life cycles. They hear repeatedly about certain ones like that of the frog. Therefore, I like the idea of introducing a new one to students. Another reason for this particular book is that it is one with an internet connection. As the world revolves around computers, this is an excellent connection to have.
