Mrs. Grindy’s shoes by (Sunshine Books) by Joy Cowley- Children’s book- Mrs. Grindy’s shoes are old and she needs a new pair of shoes. She visits a shoe shop. A salesgirl approaches her. She informs her that in this shop there are many designs of lady shoes in the shop. She will be able to show a pair of shoes of her choice. Salesgirl presents her with pair of shoes in red, blue colour. Mrs. Gridley rejects these shoes for the reason that she does not approve of these colours. Sales girl shows her pair of shoes with little size heels but she refuses to buy for the reason that she wants shoes in which winter cold can protect her feet. Next the sales girl shows shoes made of animal fur. This time Mrs. Gridly refuses to buy them because she does not like fur shoes. Mrs. Gridly is shown pair of shoes with high heel and low heel but still she does not approve of them. Whole open area of the shoe shop was filled with pair of shoes shown to Mrs Gridly. In the end, Mrs. Gridly finds a pair of shoes whose colour, size is approved by her for purchase. Sales girl utters that these are the pair of shoes which she had worn when she entered their shoe shop. Mrs. Gridly decides to keep her old pair of shoes. I have read this book in Hindi. Coloured Illustrations are helpful in aligning the narration to the reader.
