Doris Ahoy

After recent traumatic events, ‘arold and Doris have embarked on a world cruise, hoping for rest and relaxation.
Their plans are thwarted at every turn. There's the mystery surrounding the identity of Mrs Veronica Ambrose, and a dance competition that pits the pair of them against regional champion and trifle guzzler, Ken.
Told from the perspective of long suffering husband 'arold, he dreams of being back home, nursing a pint down the Hare and Horse. Instead, he's propping up a smoothie bar with health and fitness freak, Percy, a man with an unnatural interest in kale.
Doris Ahoy is the third book in a series of monologues featuring Mrs Doris Copeland of Partridge Mews.

Charlie is back with book number 2.5 in his Doris trilogy, and boy, is this a good one. He’d been thinking about just including it as a bonus with the third book, but I definitely think it stands alone as a decent little novella in its own right.

Here, Doris, ‘Arold and grandson Theo are all on a cruise ship and gearing up to enter a dance competition. It’s written with Charlie’s inimitable brand of northern British humour, and I was even weirdly pleased to see Doris and ‘Arold settle down in the bedroom in this one. It was very tastefully done, but it’s rare that you read about old people having sex in books. So you could theoretically start with this one – or you could start with Our Doris and work your way here.

Doris Ahoy!
I was pleased to return to the world or Our Doris, after reading the first addition I always grin before I have even started wondering what Doris will get up too this time....
Doris Ahoy didn't disappoint, although a shorter story than its predecessors it was a perfect addition.
I was surprised to find myself enjoying a smaller characters development throughout the story that was the impactful Mrs Veronica Ambrose! I love what she represents and the struggle she is facing day to day is made humorous yet educating. A subtle but powerful addition to the story and a reflection of the author's general empathy is humbling.
I would be devastated not to return to the life of Doris and arold and not meet up with Veronica again. (Slight hint to Charles).
The holiday was just what Doris deserved after her time in Indisputably Doris and I find myself treating these characters like people apart of my life I like to check in on as their personalities warm you as you get to know them.
A great read and again I enjoyed the belly laughs but also the touching moments that make these books so special 💙

This is the third in the Doris series and I absolutely loved it. Set aboard a cruise ship Doris and Harold have another adventure and Doris has another adversary all of which is put together so well. Another one of my favourite characters Theo who is their grandson is also a part of this which I absolutely love. Definitely a more emotional book yet it still has the northern humour which gives it light. I really needed this book and can’t wait for the final book in the series. If you like books they make you smile then pick up the whole series.

Another great addition to this series. I loved spending more time with these characters and really enjoyed the different setting too. Touching and humorous in equal measure.

It’s simple sentences like “she even had ira murgatroyd donkey-stone the front step” that put me in a relaxed mood w all its Britishisms/humor. Our doris may not be the paragon of pc virtues - her socioeconomic status keeps her chances of being one v low but at the end of the day she makes the right calls/is a good person and what’s most laudable is how much she tries, which some may view as her detriment, but the sheer energy she puts into her community is commendable and dare i say inspirational.
