Hindsight: Seeing Clearly through the Veil of Deception

Rate this book
In Joyce Meyer’s bestselling book, Battlefield of the Mind, she attests that indeed “there is a war which rages in our minds.” Hindsight takes readers on a journey through Rhonda Madge’s tumultuous life to reveal how she fell prey to anxious thoughts that molded her mind through a belief in the whispered lies.

A horrific event at the age of seventeen left Rhonda continually searching for something or someone to fill the dark chasm of her heart. Tears seemed to puddle around her wherever she went. However, she learned to carefully hide herself in a masquerade put on for the outside world, allowing her to project that all was well with her soul even as the slow decay continued from within. Those who find themselves pretending will be drawn to the answers her story presents.

But it was God who worked to lift the veil from Rhonda’s eyes, allowing her to see that, though she thought He was far from her, He remained at arm’s length. Thus a seeker’s interest will be peeked as they read about Rhonda’s exploration of who and what God truly is--a loving, personal God. Those who struggle with life’s hardships will be encouraged and inspired to practice Rhonda’s perseverance.

In a world where sorrow is often heaped upon sorrow, this very real story bares truth that will leave readers filled with hope.

This memoir resonated very strongly with me. Like the author I felt shame about my failed relationships and it took me 60 years to figure out He loves me and can use my brokenness to reach others.

"A Story of Redemption"

I loved this authors transparency both about her faith and lack of it. I liked the way she was honest enough to question where God was in her life.
My heart ached for her in parts of her story. Her early life was marred by  heart wrenching pain from things that were out of her control. Which led to a young adult who didnt make wise choices. She chose to hid from God, while striving to appear like her life was in order. She wanted everyone to believe she knew what she was doing and she had everything under control.

The problem with that thinking was she couldn't hid from herself or God, and things were far from being in order. God continued to persue her and she continued to grow howbeit, at times it seem slowly.

As her life turned around she stopped running from God. She grew in love,  forgiveness, and faith letting go of shame, anger and unbelief.

This is the authors story of healing, trust and redemption.  It didn't happened over night but I believe the authors story can bring hope to others.

I received an advance readers copy of this book. This is my honest review. While this book isn't an easy read it is one well worth reading.

Warning: Do not read this book if you do not have several hours to devote to reading, because if you are anything like me, you will not be able to put it down!

As you can tell by my warning, I read this book in one day! Hindsight is the powerful story of Rhonda Madge's life, and how the events in her life shaped her into the strong Christian woman that she is today. Death, fear, murder, divorces, miscarriages, building a family, adoption...this book has it all. While all of these elements made the story interesting, my favorite part of the book was seeing how God pursued Rhonda, even when she ran from Him. Her story is one that will be an encouragement for many, and I would love to read more books by this author in the future.

I received a copy of this book as a member of the launch team. All opinions are my own.

We never know what life will hit us with and when pain comes sometimes we begin to doubt God and anger sets in. This is a book written by the author of her journey down a dark road and back. I think we can all relate to this at some point and time in our lives. A story of loss and redemption. A story of hurt and healing. A story of coming out on the other side when you didn’t even know how to get there. A great read!
I received an advanced copy and this is my honest opinion.

THIS. BOOK.!! I read this book in one evening because it was EXCELLENT and I couldn't put it down. Author Rhonda Madge has a powerful testimony and grabs you with her life story of redemption!! At the age of 17 when something horrifying happens in her life, she begins to doubt God. She moves away from her faith and her life then begins to take a downward path. Her time away from God moves her in the direction of many mistakes causing her guilt and shame. After multiple marriages, her and her latest husband, Troy, cross paths with believers and Troy comes to know the Lord. You will be brought to tears as you read the rest of her story once her faith is restored. She stated in her book that after meeting Jesus, their lives were never the same.

Excerpt from her book:
'I reached for my Bible, hoping to find comfort from the confusion and doubt. My fingers found Ephesians 1:11 '..... having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will.....' I read it again, pausing on the words predestined, purpose, and His will. I honestly could not believe what I was reading. Why do I question you Lord? And why is it so hard to trust you?'

I highly recommend her book. I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion.

I have read this book twice this week. Once to myself, and again aloud to my husband. We laughed and cried as we read through her story told in such a beautiful, personal way. It was like we were having a conversation with her. Reading Rhonda's story - including anger at God, doubt, and redemption - really spoke to my heart as so much of it mirrors my own. Through Rhonda telling her story I was reminded that, no matter what, God is with me and loves me more than I will ever understand. And to forgive those who hurt you is paramount to moving forward.

This book is RICH in lessons. I would recommend it for:
Anyone who is struggling through heartache, has struggled, or will struggle. (EVERYONE)
Anyone who just wants to be honest and be themselves - especially in this day of social media perfection!
Anyone who likes to hear a great God story.
Anyone who is searching for truth and wondering about God.
Anyone who is trying to fill a hole or void in their life/heart.

We all go through hills and valleys in life, but often, we find ourselves trying to hide the ugly experiences. In the book, Hindsight, Rhonda Taylor Madge clearly illustrates a beautiful transformation--from the depths of her painful valleys (which she so openly shares) to a glorious walk with God where she experiences love, grace, and forgiveness. The author is so REAL; I loved her transparency. Trust me, as you read through the pages, you will feel like part of her family. If you are anything like me, you won't be able to put this book down! At this point, I am ready and waiting for the sequel. I promise, Hindsight will speak to your heart and soul. Highly recommended!

As an avid reader of Stephen King, I was reminded of a line from THE STAND as I read Rhonda’s book. One of the main characters, Nick Andros is fighting to save the world in this classic good vs. evil battle. In his anguish over what lies ahead, he says to Mother Abigail (who gathering the good people to fight evil) “But I don’t believe in God.” Her response is laughter and “But God believes in YOU.” God believed in Rhonda even when she was angry, frustrated, and doubtful....just as He does in us all. Her words and her journey reminded me of the truths that I often forget or take for granted. It’s a truly remarkable story of one woman’s journey to a life well lived in Christ.

This is an amazingly honest book that everyone should read. If you or someone in your life is feeling like they are not good enough for God or that they've made too many mistakes this is the book that just might break thru that mentality and let you get on with your relationship with God without those roadblocks. It is a fast read so you don't have to commit a lot of time to it but oh so worth it.

I don’t think there is one person out there that won’t be able to identify with this book. What an amazing story of redemption and God’s continuous pursuit for our heart. Like the layers of an onion, the author’s story peels back all the layers of self doubt and lies that the enemy had convinced her were true. We all live behind a curtain of deception to some degree and this book will help inspire you to open up your heart and see the person that God most perfectly created!!

Rhonda tells her story of the hills and valleys of life with such emotion. Her walk with God has been challenging and not always a straight path. This book is great for anyone that is searching for truth, wanting to hear and amazing God story, or struggling with life.

It’s amazing the lies we believe. I’m too far gone, I can’t be helped, everyone would hate me if they knew...

Rhonda Taylor Madge addresses these as she shares her story. It’s amazing how God works in our lives even before we acknowledge he’s there.

Hindsight shows the beauty of God’s grace in a captivating story.
