The nameless protagonist leaves prison determined to find out who framed him for a crime he didn’t commit. But he soon discovers that his nephew has been murdered, his family has vanished, and someone is out to get him. The Last Straight Face is authentic British noir that grips right to the last page.
An exceptionally gripping, un-glamorized, and readable look at the life of one low-ish level career criminal. Jones's spare style is suited to the tale, and while the plot offers a satisfying payoff, he never sacrifices character for the sake of action. Highly recommended.
