When Morag MacCullach was kidnapped on her wedding day, her sister, Cat, vowed that she would find her and bring her safely home to be married to the man she had been promised to.
But what she had not expected was that her father would be so dead set on an alliance with the Mackay Clan that he would put her in Morag's place to be married to the wild son of Ginny Mackay. The marriage could not be real; she would never allow it. But as time passed, there was no sense in denying that the anger and distrust she felt for Lachlann Mackay had become something else entirely.
"She's been taken by Manus Camran—she'll be dead by now... Or worse."
But Morag has been missing for months, and Cat refuses to believe that what everyone says is true. Despite everything, she's determined to see her sister rescued, even if it means taking matters into her own hands and facing Manus Camran herself.
Reader beware — "A Warlord's Prize" features lots of plaid, possible historical inaccuracies, a high-spirited heroine, and a dastardly plot that could ruin everything. There is no cheating to be found here, NO cliffhanger, and a Highland HEA is guaranteed.
Inside every history book is a heartthrob waiting to be discovered...
Avery Maitland writes in several different genres, but she keeps coming back to history.
She firmly believes that there is a heartthrob to be found in every history book, and she's determined to find the perfect one—no matter how many books it takes.
Yea, book 3. And where I thought book 2 did a great job in all the adventure and romance. This book literally kicks 1 and 2 in the pants. The women are strong. I love the mother in law even if she comes off as a b$tch and the men don't know how to take no for a answer either. So there is fighting, cursing, romance and tons of action every step of the way. Cat will not sit by idly by for her husband to save her sister Morag from that brute Manus. She will do it on her own and keep her safe. But with problems at every turn will she be able to make it to her sister in time before the Manus makes his move against the Laird...
ADULT Historical Alpha Male🐺🍆⛲🔪 Highlander🏰 Romance💕 and Adventure 🔪
This is basically a formula romance💕 with Cat💃💋, the wife of the bad boy Laird Lachlan🐺🍆⛲💪🔪, setting out on her own to rescue her kidnapped sister, Morag. After Lachlan🐺🍆⛲💪🔪 leaves their castle🏰 with his men to go get Morag from her captor, Manus, Cat💃💋 stupidly follows, All alone.
Lachlan🐺🍆⛲🔪💪 and his men have already killed a band of men traveling to join up with Manus, when Cat💃💋 mistakenly stumbles into Lachlan's camp after dark. Luckily for her, he doesn't punish her or send her back. This is an unlikely scenario. He decides to let her continue on to Argyll with him and his men, but Morag is in Oban.
Cat💃💋🔪 attempts to go on alone when she thinks that Lachlan🐺🍆⛲🔪💪 isn't moving fast enough to suit her. Here I began to really dislike Cat's character, because she is irrational, thoughtless and stupid, continually putting herself at risk and ignoring her much more experienced husband. The End.

If you like books where at least one of the main characters is irrational, thoughtless, and reckless, this is the book for you. At least there is a happy ending.
Manus Camran had caused a lot of unrest across this part of the country. He wanted to take the Laird's place. He had gathered up a pretty good size army but they were short on food and weapons. Lachlann, was Ginny's son and she was laird of her keep. The MacKays would never let Manus take it over. Cat was his wife and she was very fierce. Morag who had been kidnapped by Manus was her sister and she would find her or die trying. Lachlann was going to Argyll and try to warn Nathan McArthur about Manus holing up in Oban. This is the third of three books about Lachlann and Cat, her sister, and the rest of the gang. This last book answers all the questions from all three of them that had been unanswered. I thought these books were great and their characters equally absorbing. There is action, fighting, and they are trying to protect what is theirs. The author did a nice job with the history of the times and the hierarchy of the clans. I loved the way Cat stood up to Lachlann. He may be her husband but she had a say, too. I received this ARC from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.
I could not bear to finish this series. Cat and Morag start feisty, but just become bloody annoying. In this 3rd book Cat behaves like a petulant child who thinks she knows it all. She is with hardened, seasoned, experienced warriors but argues with them at every turn as if she is their equal. She is not. She has NO experience of war or battle yet behaves as if she knows best. I really wished I could slap her & tell her to damn well grow up! Morag is a little better as her captivity gives the author the space to develop her character. That said, the growth is limited. Male characters are ciphers. They have a task and get it done, there is no depth or dimension to them. The great Lachlan Mackay comes across as weak around Cat. She talks and demands and he never really stands up to her. Some scary warrior! Donnal is no better. He barely says anything of note or real significance that reveals anything about him as a man, a lover, a warrior. Even after they have sex, or finds out she is pregnant, or when he attempts their escape, the character is hollow. Quite honestly, I highly recommend the author take a class or two in character development.

Fiercely and disobeying all advise, Cat was going to go looking for her sister and her revenge was not going to be waiting. Mad Manus Camran's intentions were clear, he would raze everything to state his claim! The fight would be arduous, difficult and very dangerous because Lachlann and Cat Mackay were not going to submit. They were going to fight to the end. What a strong heroine the young Cat McKay turned out! I liked her brave character, fearless and decided. Able to take care of herself and face any danger. A strong girl for the wild and fierce Lachlann Mackay. Good match! Fast paced, action-packed, strong characters, suspense, betrayal, violence, passion and an interesting plot development that kept me reading until the end. Good ending to the trilogy. Voluntarily reviewed this copy that I received from CandidReviews and I enjoyed.
I have read at least one other book by this author, and I had some issues with it. I like to give an author more than one chance to impress me with their writing. You never know if an author just has an off book that doesn’t show her talents or if you yourself as a reader just don't like a particular story. I'm glad I checked out this other series by this author. While I found it a little confusing at the start, by the end of the series (and this book is the final installment, I had come to care for the characters and wanted things to end well and right. With a few bobbles along the way, the author did get us there. Ultimately, I found this to be a well-written series with good characters.
Very nice job bringing and blending everything together from the previous books concerning the predicament of the "brides" and the continued unrest in the highlands. Love the sassiest of the highland sisters which I think they need since they are paired up with battle-ready warriors. Love that the warriors can be strong but not too prideful to be gentle when it counts. Kept me on pins and needles of anticipation and glued to the pages from start to finish.

I liked this book. I liked that the women in this book, and the last one, were not submissive women that didn't do anything. I really liked Cat. She was a spitfire and great match for her hubby. I was happy to see the resolution to the situations from the second book as well. There was a lot that I liked about this book. I now want to go back to the beginning and find out how everything started...since I started with book 2. I think others will enjoy this book too. It is a quick and easy read.
This is the exciting ending to this story, it's an action packed, fast paced and suspenseful. After Lachlann leaves to warn the laird of the imminent attack, Cat follows to make sure he rescues her sister. After catching up with Lachlann and his men, Cat sneaks away after being told that they'd be heading straight to the laird instead of stopping to rescue Morag, and finds herself in trouble. Cat is feral sometimes, she's impulsive and can't help butting in. Lachlann is loyal, determined and indulgent. It's a fitting end to an intriguing journey for them.
There was a lot of action, fighting, love, surprises, and more in this story. Cat wanted to hunt for her sister, Morag, and did everything she could to succeed. Lachlann had his honor, loyalty, and love push him to do what he can to stop Manus. This story finished off the Highlander's Honor storyline, and it did not disappoint. This can be read as a stand alone as elements are explained as the story moves on.
I received a copy of this story through CBR Services, and this is my unsolicited review.
Omg, I absolutely loved this book! It was the perfect end to the series and though I'm sorry to see it end, this was fantastic. Norah and Cat both get the happy endings they deserve and they're faced life or death challenges throughout that keep you rooted to your seat because your heart is beating so fast as though you are there, facing enemies and challenges yourself. This book is the best of the series, I give it my highest possible recommendation.
I loved that this third book felt longer than the first two books did. One thing I'd change is that I feel Cat should have been honest about her husband's friend/employee whatever you'd call him. I also love that almost everyone, and especially those characters who matter, get their happy ending. I received this book at no cost to me and all opinions are completely my own.
Be aware this is the third in a series. The first 2 books end with a cliffhanger which isn’t ended until the third book. I didn’t realize or I wouldn’t have started. First book was interesting until realization it had no ending. By second book it was becoming tiresome. Frankly skipped around by the third one. Just wanted it over.
I enjoyed the trilogy. The characters and plot were well developed. I totally loved the female main characters. Each in their own way were tough, determined spitfires who did not change in temperament even after falling in love.
This book is a fitting conclusion to this trilogy. Rescues are made, battles are waged and victory is declared. It is action packed, full of surprises and has a little steam thrown in for good measure.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
i thought the characters were strong. the women i mean... the guy angus annoyed me though.. im not sure if maybe i just didnt like him or what.. a couple characters grew on me.. i enjoyed the hea and the couples.. it was a good story
A great conclusion to the story. I loved that she wouldn’t be stopped from finding her sister. The drama surrounding the search made for a great story and the intensity was palpable. Wonderfully engaging and entertaining story.
What wonderful stories. Loved each one and this one by far was the best! Sheesh now I have to find more to read! I always want more to stories. This was just so good!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😊😊😊😊😊💜💜💜💜💜
