At only ten years old, Tempest's life changed forever. She suffered unbearable loss and tragedy that she would have to live with forever. For the next seventeen years, she suffered immeasurable pain and ridicule on behalf of the people that were supposed to love and protect her. Then she met Dame. The way that he had come into her life and saved it was more heroic than any superhero in a Marvel movie. Yet, she could not wholeheartedly accept the undeniable chemistry between them. Dame was the first man to make her feel secure, beautiful, and confident. He uplifted her. He ravished her. Yet, that was not enough to erase years of ugliness that had been on her, suffocating any possibilities of her having any kind of happily ever after.
However, Dame is not a man that likes to be told no. He was demanding in the hood, and he was dominant when it came to the people that he loved. He is not that type of man to allow a woman to walk away from him. Yet, he only has the patience to be told no so many times before he gives up.
Dame and Tempest's love journey is unconventional to say the least. Their road to unconditional, genuine love is full of bumps and violent turns that may never lead them into the arms of one another.
Every beauty needs a beast... However, in this standalone, Urban Romance by Jessica N.Watkins, he is the beauty, and she is the beast.

She obtained a Bachelors of Arts with Focus in Psychology from DePaul University and Masters of Applied Professional Studies with focus in Business Administration from the like institution. My writing evolved from apple trees to my seventh and eighth grade classmates paying me to read novels I had written about kids our age living the lives our parents wouldn’t dare let us”. At the age of twenty-eight, Watkins’ chronicles have matured into steamy, humorous, and realistic tales of women's literature. She hopes that The Epitome of Femistry series will successfully emulate ideal femininity while tackling stereotypes, familiar heartache, and relatable distress in a humorous, sophisticated, and erotic fashion.

Starting off intriguing and a little bit different I was sucked into what Tempest went through with a home fire that left her badly scarred and the heartbreak that Dame was going through with his girl oc 15 years deciding to up and leave with the kids. A devoted father he's left torn and with a defeated heart Tempest was left trying to figure out how to muddle through when her long time fiancé called it quits. Thus we get the stage set a d tge writer ready to roll.
What I thought would be a wonderful romance become a frustrating slowwwwwww slow slow it all the way down burn. It was excruciating. Sometimes these types of burns don't feel so bad but with the amount of story we had it felt like no ground was covered at all. Finally we get our love bombing feels but it comes so late with the HEA
one major question: who exactly was a Savage and who exactly was property because the title did not met expectations.
I have read many "Jessica Watkins presents..." and enjoyed most of them. So you can only imagine how excited I was to be reading a book she wrote. The story was interesting. It was like the urban version of Beauty and the Beast with a twist of indecent proposal thrown in. However, I never met the "Savage" that the title talks about. Dame, the main male, character fulfilled the role of Beauty. He was a hustler that wanted a better life for himself and his children. He had a beautiful spirit but seem to attract women that didn't appreciate him. In addition, he had the drive to want to change but his hustling had gotten him no where in 15 years. I didn't understand that. The Beast was different from any other beast I have read about. She covered up her fur with essential make up that she made. She presented herself in one light when she saw herself in another light. I couldn't determine who was the savage. Neither were savage like to me. Even their sex was not savage or extreme. I think a better title would be "Tempted by the Beast" Or "The Hustler and the Beast". The Second title would have left the reader wonder who the author was referring to as what. :) I tickle me at times. Overall, I liked the story. I would recommend it to my friends to see if they found the savage. I know it seems that I keep going back to the title and I do. I do because I think I was disappointed by the title. The title captured my attention before I flipped to the first page. Happy Reading!
Very well written, great storyline and character development. I love how the author switched the role of beauty and the beast in this book. Tempest insecurities have plagued her all her life to the point where she felt as though she would never get her prince charming. Who would've thought that a simple Uber ride would lead to a chain of events ending in a long term relationship. Dame was the perfect man for Tempest. He didn't let her imperfections get in the way of the type of person he thought she was and eventually he grew to love. The chemistry between these two was undeniable and I was glad Dame didn't give up on Tempest even though she gave him a hard time. Through it all they were meant for each other. He was definitely The Beauty to Her Beast.
Tempest was in a long term relationship that she should have been ended, but her self esteem kept her from doing so. Derrick was an azz. He didn't help at all with her self esteem issues. He really did her a big favor by calling things off. Maya finally called things off with the father of her kids. She was fed up. Well actually she grew up and Damien didn't. Or did she? She quickly learned that the grass is not always greener on the other side. That sometimes being content may not be as bad as she thought. And Tempest, she was really pissing me off by not confessing her feelings. She could have saved both of us the heartache had she done so a long time ago🤦🏾♀️ 4.5*
I’m so happy for them first she was really pissing me off I know she didn’t like the way her body looked but he let it be known that he didn’t care and Keisha and Maya relationship is the true definition of don’t tell people your personal business cause they want to see your downfall and Nina should’ve left her husband with his nasty ass but I loved it
Tempest hid her scars for so long but when she met Damien, the instant chemistry was there! What Maya didn't appreciate the love and sacrifices Dame made so Tempest eventually reaped the benefits and the man! Dame could look beyond her physical scars and love her unconditionally! A really beautiful love story!
Jessica never disappoints! I was captivated from the very first page! Dame was everything a woman could ask for and more! Can’t wait to read more from you!
If you're looking for a romantic, hood, savage love story..
This story won't check all the boxes.
The FMC Tempest had an early life traumatic situation, which scarred her deeply in multiple ways. Her insecurity made her immature, indecisive, and selfish. Her self-sabotage level was a perfect 10.
But, anyone with her level of trauma would've been impacted. What didn't make sense is that no one had the wherewithal to suggest counseling, or even support her other than her best friend... until the ML came along.
The ML, Damien (Dame) was overall a pretty likeable character. Strong, fairly transparent and honest, great father, responsible.. as you can tell by now, he was cool. Although, he did hustle and had a darker past, the current scene of the book involved him being more mature and grounded.
He wasn't savage, nor was their love story.
What's good.. -Unique plot. Tempest, the FMC, had a traumatic past which carried over to her adult years, but she was far from disadvantaged, abused, and some of the other familiar tropes you see applied towards the FMC in A/A stories. -Most of the black men in this book, were good, hard-working men. There were a few trifling ones, but again.. compared to other stories, the author did a great job, not applying the stereotype.
What's not.. -Detailed descriptions of all the main characters. Tempest and Dame were described, but other characters received body or color descriptions, if that. - Inconsistencies. Example: Tempest's mothers age was changed about 2x. -How annoying Tempest's attitude was towards Dame. Extremely, cold and judgemental, yet claiming to have all of these feelings for him. This lasted so long in the book, over 90%, that by the time she admitted her feelings.. I wished he had found someone else more deserving. Despite her trauma, her character was not likeable. -Dame's ex Maya. Her truth isn't exposed until the last minute, at least to the readers. The way it was written into the story, it just didn't make sense that Dame would've accepted her back the way he did if he knew what happened. No, not after the way he'd acted initially. -The long drawn out plots that reached climax at the very end, negatively impacted the storyline. The extra long inner dialogues felt like fillers, and I skipped most of it.
I struggled to understand the chemistry between the main characters, because Tempest was brutally cold, almost cruel, to Dame.
Mya lying to Dame about why she ended their 15 year relationship was a blessing for him although he didn't know it at the time. Mya was scandalous and trifling. She thought the grass was greener on the other side until she realized the grass was dead. G didn't want Mya. He used her and I didn't feel sorry for her because of how she did Dame. That was her Karma. Mya was so low down and dirty. She tried to use and turn her and Dame children against him because he didn't want her back. I wasn't even surprised her trifling friend Keisha turned on her. It was unfortunate that Tempest suffered a loss and ended up with some disfigurement at a young age. What happened to her and the cruelty she suffered from being made fun of had her insecure and feeling like she wasn't deserving of love. Although her and Dame ended up in a relationship in the most unconventional way. The love he had for her was unmatched. I couldn't stand Nneka. It seems to me she was jealous of Tempest with the amount of shade she tried to throw. Nneka husband definitely wasn't who she thought he was. Sometimes a mother will sacrifice her own happiness to make sure her child is straight. Nina definitely sacrificed her happiness to make sure Tempest didn't grow up with the bare minimum. Amaechi didn't even seem like the type of man Nina would entertain but I realized she had her reasons. She also had her reasons for securing Tempest future and was able to walk away from her marriage with Amaechi once she caught him in a compromising position. I was glad that Tempest stopped running and realized she deserved to be loved properly by a man like Dame.
I was a little worried when reading this book... It was almost too drawn out... But it was an interesting read. Tempest went thru a whole lot of trouble to love herself thru her scars. Loved Damien for being the man to his children, and wanting to do better with his life. Nina her mother, always had her best interest, and she got what she needed out of her Bi Husband... He should feel like crap, for having an affair with his own daughter (Nneka)s husband. And she needed to be brought to her knees anyway for treating Temp like a trash bag, and being messy... Glad that Temp & Dame, got it together, at the wedding, when speaking their truths to one another... Maya... DUMMY... but Dame was nice enough to still support his children, and unfortunately her, and she still decided to do nothing with her life. She was so wrong, in trying to get their kids to hate their father. . Good Job Ms. Jessica.
Tempest relived a fire she was in at the age of 10 each day by looking in the mirror and seeing her face and upper body. Her self esteem just went down when her fiancé Derrick decided to end the relationship. Her bff Erica still had her back and her mother tried to encourage her to feel better. Derrick the dog. Damian is dating Mya and after 15yrs she moves out with their 3 children stating it’s just not working out. Unbeknownst to Dame she is seeing someone else and pregnant by them! When Tempest decides to hang out with Erica, grabbing an Uber will change her life. When Dame decides to hangout with his boy Meek he will know now what’s he’s been missing. When Maya gets dumped by her lover and see Dame on the arm of another woman she loses it and these 2 good people will meet, play a game and then hopefully before it’s too late and the game ends they will understand their lives , what they have created and it really ended in Love!
This was a great read. I love the way Dame loved Tempest with her flaws and all. Tempest had some deep insecurities from a house fire that killed her father and left the right side of her body with second and third degree burns and Dame saw pass all that to the beautiful person she was inside and out. Although she was in love with him to her insecurities caused her to push him away but I'm glad he finally pushed back and got his woman cause Maya didn't deserve him. Although him and Maya were together for fifteen years that didn't stop the dirt she was doing or the fact she left him for greener grass only to find out that the grass wasn't even fertilized. I'm glad he found out about her lil scheme even tho he didn't want her anymore anyway. Tempest and his kids were all he wanted and needed.💝💝
I recommend this standalone novel to anyone who appreciates a "feel good" read. Although it is alove story, Jessica uses her masterful creativity to present a fresh telling of an old familiar tale. I enjoyed reading this modern fairy tale with characters to with whom I could identify. Jessica Watkins is one of my favorite contemporary writers because each book offers its own plot with characters that are new and fresh in dynamic. I read this book in antipation of the release of HOUSE IN VIRGINIA 2. My only complaint is that it held my interest so much that I finished it in under 24 hours and now have three days to wait. Great job, Miss Watkins!
I really liked this story it wasn't the normal hood romance, the sexy male specimen Dame wasn't a King Pin which seems to be the norm. The young lady Tempest that we get to know isn't the typical bad chic she's has events in her life experiences that left her with some unflattering scars and menta trauma, but in spite of her lack of love for herself believing she wasn't capable of alluring any man that would love not just her persona but also love her flaws, she ran from Dame bcz she was terrified that his affection and seemingly deep connection was unfathomable. This is one of the few books where the characters aren't perfectly perfect and I loved every page. I do with there was more to their story 😉hint hint ☺️ Happy reading
Let me start by saying I absolutely love Jessica N. Watkins work but this was not it. It felt like the story was rushed and not well thought out at all. Things that should have been explained seemed it was wrote as an after thought and the booked seemed like it was just pushed out as a deadline. Then there were so many unanswered questions and we were left hanging. I don't feel we really got to know the characters enough to really root for them and I am having a hard time believing this story came from this author. I am going to continue to read this authors work because I know what she is capable of, but this book was not a good read at all, in my opinion.
What a wonderful book I love the Twist on Beauty and the Beast. This book wasn't anything like I thought it would be what a pleasant surprise. Tempest has been through so much 😢. Dame is a good father he literally lives for his children. Dame and Tempest the struggle was definitely real. I love that Dame truly saw how beautiful Tempest was from the inside out. I'm glad Tempest finally had the confidence to allow Dame to love her. I really enjoyed this book great job.
I read this book during a time where I felt like because Of my own flaws I was incapable of being loved correctly. Like Tempest we all have flaws and we allow the monsters in our heads to rear it’s ugly head and convincing us we are not worthy. This book made me realize although we don’t physically have a Dame waiting to love our imperfections, it starts within US by allowing ourselves to be vulnerable and fearless. Thank you Jessica for delivering such relatable content!
Ok a few things. First this book was ok. It kept me interested enough to see how things played out even though it was predictable. The title is misleading, there’s wasn’t anything savage about this book. Dame was I. The streets but we didn’t see the street side of him in this book. He was a good father and a man trying to find his way back to love. Tempest tested every part of his love for her. She was running away from someone loving her because of her insecurities. Because she was too afraid to look pass her own flaws that she thought everyone would have a problem with them.
Tempest was a woman scarred in every sense of the word. She couldn’t see past the physical scars that made the mental and emotional scars. All she saw was ugly and unworthy of love so she settled. Settled for an uglass man who settled for a broken woman. She also settled for the ridicule and rejection she received from her step family. She already made up in her mind that no man would want her. Dame was that dude. He could show her better than he could tell her. Savage indeed
This was a really good read. Dame and Tempest had an arrangement with one another to fulfill but neither didn’t think it would cause them to catch feelings. Besides the title not matching the story and Tempest condition being mentioned throughout the book over and over I enjoyed it. One part was mentioned about Ameachi for 5 seconds then it went away idk what that was about. Overall I’d recommend the book
Tempest worked my nerve a little, Dame too with their insecurity but it was understandable. However, she should have given Damien a fair shot instead of judging from the start. He was certainly TRYING but she stuck in her own head couldn't really see it until it was almost too late. Anyway they both for some act right and things worked out so for that I am glad.
This is my first read from this author and as a Chi-town resident I was greatly surprised and enjoyed Dame and Temptest love grow and blossom. Dame is that dude and Ms. Watkins penned a story that showed what could happen if people stopped fearing the unknown and let their love and dreams push them to their forever life. This story was unexpectedly beautiful and I will read some of this author’s other works.
I just loved reading this book!!! The characters were well put together!!! I loved reading Maya's attempts to hold on to something& someone she didn't love & her scandalous says left her lonely!!Tempest & Same I really enjoyed watching their plan for a fake marriage develop into true love!!! I really loved reading about all the characters in this book!!!The author did a good job with this one!!!
This book was SO GOOD!!! Tempest made me want to jump through the pages on multiple occasions. She was testing my patients, but I’m so glad Dame strong armed her stubborn @&$ - because whew, she needed it. Thankfully, she got it together.
Dame was so patient with her. The unconditional love he had for his kids, and the way he wasn’t afraid to express his emotions touched my heart.
I typically love this author but this book was just not it for me in my opinion. I understood the concept and enjoyed it at first but Miss Tempest is a piece of work. Most of the time was spent of her saying oh he wouldn't love a beast like me. Like sis what. I just didn't feel a connection through the characters and the storyline personally.
