The Hedonist #7

The Single Dad and his Soulmate

Rate this book
The seventh book in the Hedonist series, this novel can be enjoyed as a standalone but is better read with the rest of the series.

It's been five years since Flynn returned to New York and adopted his son, Cooper. In that time, not once has he run into his sexy biker ex-boyfriend. And then, at a party, Flynn and Matteo’s eyes meet, and in that moment Flynn realizes they haven't lost the intense connection they've always had between them. But the issues in Matteo’s life that drove Flynn away seven years ago are still present, and Flynn needs to guard his son’s heart as well as his own.

Matteo is shocked to realize the love of his life has been living nearby for such a long time. He wants to wrap up Flynn and his little boy in his arms and never let them go. Except Matteo’s grandmother still doesn't know he's gay. How can he disappoint the woman who has always been there for him?

Being with Flynn again and getting to know his little boy have shown Matteo what he's missing in his life, and this time he can’t blame Flynn for wanting more from him. In the end, Matteo must choose between familial responsibility and his own happiness.

The Single Dad and his Soulmate is a story of family and second chances containing the passion you’ve come to expect of a Rebecca James romance.

Matteo and Flynn

I’m so sorry to say but this wasn’t my kind of story. I loved all the others hard but this one... nope. It was a bit chaotic everyone was there, there were a lot of things going on but I missed the awesome bubble this author always create.
I didn’t like the character of Matteo or his nonna. The circumstances he kept himself in were awful and they didn’t felt necessary. Flynn also wasn’t my favorite.
Thank goodness there were some times I had a connection and could feel emotions, and it did get emotional but most of the time not.
I don’t understand this story, for me, it’s unrecognizable as part of The Hedonist series. No strong rough members here, more the opposite.

The author did more than a great job with all the previous stories!
Technically and substantively there’s nothing wrong with this story, this author knows how to write, so that's not the point here for me.
Maybe it’s all about my expectations, I was disappointed, I expected a grand finale and didn’t find it.

I’m a huge fan of Rebeccas and I love this series but instead of reading it within a day or two it took much longer, I loved Flynn but he had me feeling frustrated and Matteo was totally disappointing, I felt sorry for him as he couldn’t tell his grandmother he was gay, this is what drove them apart to begin with. When they come together again Matteo is still in the closet and has no intention of ever letting his grandmother know, then she died. For me true love overcomes everything and maybe that’s me being foolish and I couldn’t believe they were soulmates so disillusioned.

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book for my honest opinions of which I’m under no obligation to do so.

I love this author and I love this series. Honestly, I know a lot of people have taken issue with the ending and with Matteo, but I can appreciate a bit of realism in a well-written story. I think it's very realistic for the author to portray that coming out, particularly to family members whom you love but know likely won't take it well, is hard. Period. Not everyone has that courage, particularly when you're talking about the only family you have left. I'm actually kind of annoyed at the people who are being so blase about it. What if someone who is struggling with that, who NEVER got to come out to parents and grandparents - because it's f'ing hard - read those comments and feel like they're somehow less or wrong for choosing an option they felt safer to take? Matteo even mentions in the book how the way he was raised, in a strict catholic upbringing from a father who obviously wasn't free with affection and a grandmother who made it seem like he had to earn her affection, left him feeling inadequate and afraid to misstep. If you've ever grown up in a family that's consumed with organized religion you can understand how hard it can be to just be yourself, even outside of being LGBTQ+. It's easy to say, "well, screw them" when you also...I don't know...love them and want to be a part of their lives? It's a weird almost masochistic situation lol you don't want to hurt them even if you're hurting yourself. I get that Matteo was frustrating because I think it's easy from the comfort and safety as a reader to say "god, just grow a pair." I honestly think it's one of the bravest things to do, to set yourself up to the potential heartbreak and rejection and even danger that can come from coming out because we still live in a shitty world where there are strangers, let alone family members who refuse to understand. I think the author did a good job of portraying that Matteo did understand. He wasn't intentionally being shitty to Flynn. I think he had grown from the immaturity of his youthful relationship with Flynn in a lot of ways, but he still didn't know how to navigate the situation with his grandmother. I love that the author wrote a short addition to the book that I really wish had been included, of Matteo, Flynn, and Coop at her gravesite. It shows that hindsight is always 20/20 and Matteo comes to the realization I think everyone was hoping he would have while his grandmother was alive. I think it's easy to forget that some people go their whole lives never truly feeling like they can be themselves, and I'm happy for the reminder from Rebecca James to cherish the opportunity that I can. It doesn't always work out as neatly and it did for Flynn and Matteo either which is equally as sad. As always, great work.

**4.5**
I've been eagerly awaiting Flynn and Matteo's story since the end of book six. This is an ex lovers romance and whilst it's clear that the hurt and pain of separation is still there on both sides, so is the attraction and feelings that they have for each other. The passion burns hot from the moment that they allow themselves to feel it again, even after seven years.
Matteo loves Flynn but his Nonna has been there through everything and telling her he's gay has the potential to ruin their relationship and so he cannot bring himself to do it. His love for his family is admirable but continues to hurt himself and Flynn by denying his self to her. It's kind of heartbreaking to read as you can easily imagine them as a proper family with Flynn's son, Cooper. Flynn cannot/will not go back in the closet or be a part of a relationship he has to hide and you can understand where he's coming from, especially when he has to think of not just himself but Cooper as well and children can get attached very quickly.
You can really sense how deep the feelings that each man has for the other, even when they're apart. Rebecca has written another wonderful story that focuses on two men who deserve their HEA but also still includes previous characters from the series, allowing fans to get glimpses of how their lives are moving on and interacting with the current MC's. We're also introduced to a couple of new characters as Flynn's best friends push him to get out there and move forward, wanting their friend to be happy.
Definitely a recommended read for me, this book and the whole series. I'm eagerly awaiting Adam's story as he's someone that really deserves that person to love him for who he is.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

The Single Dad and His Soulmate is the seventh book in The Hedonist series by author Rebecca James. I have not read the previous books in this series; I can tell there are characters in this book that were from previous books. But other than that, I was not lost at all. I do think serious readers of this series would love this story too.
Flynn he and Matteo were once lovers. But Matteo could not give Flynn what he needed so Flynn left. Now he is back, and Matteo must make a hard choice. Take a chance on love or walk away forever.
Matteo is part of the MC biker gang Hedonist. He takes care of his grandmother. Duty, respect, and family are what matter to him. He is gay but he is afraid to tell his fragile grandmother.
Flynn owns Flynn’s Stones. He is back from New York. He has a son now and is way to busy to date. Flynn is a responsible person with a good heart he just was too close to the situation to see it properly.
Overall a great story. I loved Matteo and Flynn they are a great team. I would love to read more in this series in the future and go back and read the stories I missed.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:
A 3,5* is clicked with a 4* but in review marked as 3,5*:

5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile’ or ‘Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the the kids’ series
from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or ‘Liberty’ from Seth King),
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books and Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series)
it's like an A

3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in
hospitals). I can recommend them definitively!
It's like an B+

3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader (2-3 times a year),
it's like a B

2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok)
It's like a C-, D

1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolute NO-GO). It's like failure in the
whole line, dismissed, repeat the class

The story of Matteo and Flynn is a good story. It has lots of feels, to include tissues and just all out exasperation.

Flynn fell in love with Matteo years ago. He broke it off because he didn’t feel he was important enough in Matteo’s life. Flynn moves to California, starts a business and then adopts a baby. He is still in love with Matteo and knows that he isn’t strong enough to keep a hard line where Matteo is concerned.

Matteo is a member of the MC. He is still in love with Flynn. He knows why Flynn left and more and more he is understanding what he gave up when Flynn left.

Matteo’s grandmother is determined to marry him off. Matteo is afraid to disappoint his grandmother because he doesn’t want to lose what family he has left. It is a conundrum but only he can make the choice.

The grandmother left me cold but it tears your heart out watching Flynn and Matteo tumble through this thing called their life.

This isn’t the best one in the series but it is really good.

Mixed feelings

This was a really emotionally intense story.
Flynn and Matteo were together for a while albiet secretly because of Matteo's Catholic background and the fear of disappointing his sainted Nonna.
Flynn couldn't live that way and Matteo just couldn't bring himself to do anything that would possibly make his grandmother hate him.
Flynn is back in town and has a young son, Cooper now.
When they begin seeing one another again, Flynn finds himself still head over heels in love with Matteo but as they get closer, he realizes this time around could actually break him as well as harm his son in the fallout.
I'm sad that it took a tragic event for Matteo to finally come to his senses because I honestly don't believe he ever would have done so otherwise.
I really hoped he would realize that he needed to be honest and completely open in order to be free and live a life without fears and insecurities.
I enjoyed the story because I love the series but I was extremely disappointed in the storyline.

Kudos to this author for an ending where our two main characters are together forever, but also an ending that acknowledges that in the real world, happiness is always tinged by sadness. Not everything works out nicely for everyone and not all people are able to come out to their entire family in a way that will satisfy everyone. This is a book that acknowledges the pain and devastation that coming out can cause. This is a great second chance romance that also has a biker character, some lovely bonding between a child and the parent's love interest to make a family and some really hot and steamy love scenes. I have not read previous volumes in this series, but you can bet I will after this one. I believed in the complex reality these characters live in and I hope the rest of the series continues in the same way.

Oh man I loved The Single Dad and His Soulmate. Seriously, Matteo and Flynn were just so sweet and likable. Love isn’t easy, but their chemistry sure was. I thought Cooper was a really adorable little boy, and the reason I love kids in books. I haven’t read the rest of the Hedonist series, but I will and not having read them did nothing to diminish my enjoyment of this story. I really can’t wait to read the rest of the guys. I loved how well-paced this story was, the sex and dialogue were great and I most definitely recommend this book. And I can’t wait to read about the guys whose stories haven’t been told. I’m hooked on this motorcycle club series.

The Single Dad and His Soulmate is the seventh book in the Hedonist series by Rebecca James. Flynn and Matteo's lovestory is a second chance romance between a single dad and a man afraid to cone out to his family no matter how much he is in love. The story has emotion, angst, steamand even some humor. The characters are fantastic and have great chemistry. I truly enjoyed this story and highly recommend it.

Matteo and Flynn are such a sweet couple and the chemistry between them is electric. Their relationship ended in heartbreak for both men 7 years before the book takes place as Matteo feels that he cannot risk loosing his relationship with his elderly Nonna by admitting the fact that he is gay. Now Flynn is a single dad but little has changed for Matteo and this time there are 3 hearts on the line as Flynn's son, Coop, immediately begins to bond with Matteo.
I really enjoyed this book, it's a great addition to the series.

I wanted to love this book like I did all the others in the series but sadly I just couldn’t get into it. It was one of those books I should have been able to finish in a few hours instead of the few days it actually took. The book itself was written well but my issue was the main characters, Flynn and Matteo. I didn’t really like either character. Maybe by itself this book is okay, but compared to the others in the series it’s pretty disappointing.

2.5 or 2, I really wanted to like this story, it's the only one on the series that I bought but I can't stand the stories where after lot of years two people conect again at freaking fast speed, Matteo never changed, Flyn was also not a role adult model, I love Coop but his father and father's "best" friend were acting like teenagers, the end of the story also feel a little rushed so yeah I'm a little dissappointed but at least I finished it

The 7th book in Hedonist series by Rebecca James, does not disappoint.
If you like books with MC Clubs, then this series is right up your alley.
The Single Dad and his Soul Mate is a well written, second chance love story.
The chemistry between the main characters is electric.
Although Teo is out to his brothers at the Club, he hides his true self from his family.
There is humour, low-angst, misunderstanding and passion.
I can't wait to see what's next for us with the Hedonist Club

Have you ever read a book where a character made you want to shake them until their teeth rattled for being such a jerk? Well, I'll be the first to admit that Matteo did that for me. This poignant, bittersweet, grab-you-by-the-feels, smoldering, and totally awesome story had me hooked from beginning to end, and I would recommend getting this book ASAP.

Second chances

I like this series even if it's so much MC club business in the last books.
Flynn and Matteo are the centre of attention in this one and it's a second (or third) chance at love.
I enjoyed their story and Flynns son Cooper is a cutie. The list of established couples in the club is growing, but there's still a couple of guys that haven't met the right one yet.

Second chance soulmates

Flynn and Matteo broke up because Matteo was too scared to come out to his grandmother. 7 years later and Flynn is a single dad and they realise the are still in love but nothing has changed on Matteo’s part. Flynn is a great dad and his son is adorable, I loved the secondary characters and the lengths these guys needed to go to before the got their hea.

A great single dad story! I loved how imperfect the characters were and how the plot was not your typical linear second chance story. The twists and turns here make the book fascinating and the emotions the author invokes are so challenging. Loved how unique it was!

This was a really good book. I love Flynn and little Cooper and how they came to be father and son. Then Matteo with his bad boy biker thing. It was very sweet how accepted they were by most everyone.

I was completely captivated by Matteo and Flynn and the past they shared that didn’t guarantee them a drama free road to love. The attraction and sparks sizzled which was irresistible that neither could deny. This was great storytelling

A great addition...

I really enjoyed reading the Hedonist series. It was really enjoyable and eventful. Being a single parent, and finding yourself coming to terms with someone who you were always to be with, your Soul Mate. Once again a great addition to the series.

This wasn’t my favorite. I didn’t like how demanding Flynn was (although the reason was understandable) or how Mateo needed to man-up. He’s 40!! Grow some!!
