When a friendly, clever pony named Calico arrives at their farm, Roxy and Oliver couldn’t be more delighted. Every day becomes an adventure with their pony, the townsfolk, and the other farm animals. Whether they are wheeling about town in a little green cart, delivering Christmas to home-bound neighbors, or making daring rescues in the midst of dangerous weather, Calico keeps the children entertained with his astonishing stunts. Where did Calico learn his tricks? And how can Roxy and Oliver make sure he will be theirs forever?

Here are some possible talking points for younger kids.
Chapter 2: Roxy wishes upon a star and tells her dog watch that she can’t tell him what she wished for or it won’t come true
Chapter 7: Roxy takes the Peters kids on a ride with Calico the house without asking. They get lost and Calico gets hurt. Roxy tells the truth when she gets home and is given dinner and sent straight to bed. When her mom comes in to talk to her, Roxy says she is sorry and that no one loves her anymore. Although it seems that everyone forgives her, there are no words of affirmation written. No one saying, “of course we still love you and will never stop.” Or someone saying, “I forgive you.” It just says that Oliver wasn’t mad at her anymore, etc.
Chapter 8: Roxy wonders if Poky knelt down at midnight on Christmas Eve. It’s an old legend.
