Katrina is a follower of Jesus, a wife, a mom of four, and a Biblical Fiction author. She writes with a passion for New Testament History, especially first-century women.
When she's not lost beneath stacks of research, she's consuming copious amounts of coffee and good books.
I really enjoyed this devotional because it really brought the Biblical stories to life. Katrina's comments also helped me reflect on what I read, and her questions made me reflect on the passages. Her devotional really hit the mark in ways that other devotionals haven't. I highly recommend Christians reading this for their own study. This is different than her other book, Dividing Sword, because it is a devotional rather than an anthology or complete narrative. Each chapter includes a short story, Katrina's comments, then a few questions to reflect on. So just keep in mind that this isn't a typical short story collection, but should rather be read as part of a morning or evening study. Great book!
I've been reading Katrina D Hamel's short stories on her blog site www.katrinadhamel.com for a while now. I just started reading my copy of As The Stars today. I love Katrina's gift of bringing these timeless Bible stories to life. Each one of them inspires me to understand the scriptures in a whole new way. For anyone who has grown up familiar with the Bible, or anyone curious to know more, I highly recommend As the Stars.
This Biblical Fiction short story collection was fantastic! Highly recommended for anyone who has first read through the Bible at least once in their lifetime! I loved the author's attention to detail, and full disclosure of facts versus fiction. I'm looking forward to reading more books by this author! I was able to read a copy of this book via Overdrive, but it did not in any way affect my review. All opinions are my own.
Some of the stories aren't for younger children. Very good story telling in this book and very imaginative. Some times it is hard to picture yourself and the similarities with Bible characters but this book helped to see similarities. Well written book.
Well written book. After each story, there were interesting discussion questions. The stories were fIictional, but biblically based. This would be great for a women's bible study.
5 things to look for in As The Stars 1) a fresh perspective of people it’s easy to skim over in the Bible 2)author’s thoughts and scriptures after each short story— perfect for a devotional 3) My favorites from the collection: The paralytic whose 4 friends brought him to Jesus (Jesus restores body and soul) And Priscilla and Aquila (serving Christ as a couple) 4) sharing the gospel with joy 5)It’s time to rise to the call.Give yourself to God and see what amazing things He does in your life! 1st time reading this author. Can’t wait to read her other Biblical novelization A Dividing Sword
A Wonderful Devotional Collection. I enjoyed this collection of Bible stories the author put together. It's different and doesn't take a long time to read. I love the thoughts and insights and the end of each chapter kind of like discussion questions or food for thought. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author.
