Faithful In My Fashion

From the jacket flap:

Poker had five wives... and while it is not unheard of for a man to marry and divorce five times, few men would have had the bland courage to live, as Poker did, with all five ex-wives and fifteen children under one roof- and manage to do so, moreover, in such astonishing harmony.

To Poker, otherwise known as Henry Mahommet Bowling, 26th Baron Bowling and 18th Earl of Tintagil, the whole arrangement was entirely logical, his recognition of the ordinary conventions being somewhat dim.

The history of this extraordinary man and his forebears is hilariously recounted by Lesbia, one of Poker's many daughters. She also tells her own story, and it is quite understandable that generation upon generation of fiercely individualist Bowlings were necessary steps in the evolution of her unique and altogether enchanting personality.
