I loved this book when I was a child. The pictures were excellent. I would gaze at the pictures and read the words.

My brother Toby gave this to Waits for his birthday. Toby is in the process of cleaning out our childhood home, and he found this one in a stack of old children's books up in the attic. It was a favorite of mine when I was very young, and the illustrations brought back strong feelings of home and comfort.

It's done in the same style as "I am a Bunny," another classic Golden book — simple illustrations of the baby bear in his natural setting, surrounded by butterflies and woods and mushrooms, and his friend, the moose — another favorite of Waits's. He now requests this one every time we sit down to read books.
