I’m so excited to share this wonderful book for Lent, Surrender All: An Illuminated Journal Retreat through the Stations of the Cross by artist Jen Norton.

I’m always looking for some spiritual reading. I go through those books, if not quickly, then certainly consistently, as I dedicate a part of my morning prayer to spiritual reading. Jen’s book combines that meditation with a visual component that feeds all my senses. I think you’ll enjoy it, too.

I am looking forward to praying through the Stations of the Cross with this lovely companion.

Just received this and it is beautiful-can't wait to dive into this during Lent! The artwork is done in rich vibrant hues brimming with symbolism. The format for each station follows a pattern: the station is announced with accompanying artwork, followed by a brief scripture passage and a reflection linking past to present. That is followed by three sections inviting the reader to respond in a variety of ways. There are always journal prompts to ponder and an action step you can take to "turn up the light." Finally, there is a prayer. This book is written in such a way that there is something for everyone-whether you are more "visual" or literary-minded, and no matter your schedule. You can engage with this if you only have small moments available or if you are inclined to do a deep dive.

This book was a good way to walk through Holy Week, and I will be visiting it again in more depth. It has a lot of great meditations, scripture, and questions to journal with. It also has prompts for more creative and prolonged meditation on some of the stations.

This was my Lenten read. I didn't work through all the hands on/artsy meditations, but the daily reflections and musings on the artwork was a good start to my mornings.
