The inspiring true story of one man's journey to achieve the American Dream, and the wisdom he gained about what it takes to find success.

Raghbir (R.K.) Sehgal left his native India as a teenager with little money in his pocket. He worked factory jobs in the United Kingdom and eventually moved to the United States. Living in the Deep South in the 1960s, Sehgal experienced discrimination and that redoubled his desire to succeed. He started as a junior engineer at Law Engineering and rose to become Chairman & CEO. Close the Loop is his story told through the voice of his son Kabir Sehgal. This is a profound and personal meditation on hope, persistence, diligence, and resilience. Raghbir also shares his five lessons for success, which you can use to optimize your life.

In the current political climate, where some see immigration as a threat to our culture and way of life, it is so refreshing to read a book about a man, an immigrant, who embodies the American dream. Leaving India as a teenager and coming to America after a short stint in the U.K., Raghbir “R.K.” Sehgal not only “made it” in America, he made it a better place as a result.

The former CEO of one of the largest engineering firms in the world, a public servant and civic leader, a friend and confidant of politicians, civil rights leaders, and power brokers both in his home State of Georgia, the U.S. and around the world, he has never forgotten his humble roots, or the people who helped him along the way. He did it the old-fashioned way: hard work, honesty, dedication, and genuine concern and gratitude for the people he worked for, and the people who worked for him. He is generous and kind, but also insistent that everyone, with his help and encouragement, live up to their full potential.

This biography, very well written by his son, Kabir Sehgal, is a fascinating story of a man who never seems to stop moving. A man with great vision, but also a man with great wit and a sly sense of humor. One of the best parts of this book is when he shares his Five Lessons for Success. Spelled out in detail, these are not exactly what you might expect, including number five: Find Your Mantra…perhaps I should mention he’s a friend of the Dalai Lama. Full of great anecdotes and tales, sometimes about very famous people, Close the Loop is an inspiring, insightful, and often humorous look into the life of a wonderful man.

Close the Loop is part biography of one man’s quest to immigrate to America and part business lessons for success. Raghbir Sehgal’s drive and accomplishment in the business community is remarkable. More impressive is the means by which he achieved this: his integrity, relationship building, persistence, and unwavering focus. One of the main lessons in this book is the focus on how you treat people along the way.

Adding to his life story are tales of the remarkable national and international contacts he encountered in his career. These are compelling as they include such figures as President Jimmy Carter, Ambassador Andrew Young, and a host of national and international figures. All of these relationships come with warm anecdotes, often told humorously.

Kabir Sehgal’s writing of the life of his father engenders the book with warmth and insight. Surely this was a labor of love done well.
