When kaliyug resolved to enter Aryavatra, and encountered the last Pandav king a curse gave the world it's first 'Nidhi-Palak' or The Guardian of treasure Troves in the form of Lord Kuber's mortal son, Suta.
In time, the Guardian bloodline scattered all over the world.
Acharya Agnihotri is an astrologer. He searches for hidden treasures, to fulfill his destiny as a 'Nidhi-Palak'. Dr. Mahesh secretly finances missions for Acharya. Kumar is favored by unfathomable luck. Jabbar is a legendary digger, and Srikanth is just a common man. United, they form the Treasure Syndicate, always a team of five; a motley mix with an uncanny balance.
Bound by the elaborate framework of coincidence, destiny, and fate, the mission of the syndicate is not a cakewalk. The danger is real, and the conditions are never favorable.
A hunting past awaits Acharya's team, as the Kaliyug threatens to turn the mission upside down.
"Treasure Syndicate" was the first thing I saw when I received a monthly book summary from DDS. I dived deep and found out that the book is based on a treasure hunt with a unique concept. So I inquired more to DDS, she strongly recommended me to go for it. I bought it on Amazon at a great deal price. I should have started it as soon as I received but due to Diwali and health issues, three pan was postponed. Before 2020 starts I am putting my review as a new year gift to the author who conceptualized this book.
As the name suggests Treasure Syndicate is the story of how a group of 5 met and conducted a treasure hunt. But if you are expecting something like a treasure hunt of National Treasure types Movie, then no, it's a different style. The Syndicate here is a dedicated group lead by one of them known as Leader/guide (claimed to be a direct decedent of Suka the son of Kubera). In our story he is Acharya, an astrologer, a Vastu expert, he had helped his father in finding 3 treasures in the past. But the first mission he led as a guide was a failure and he lost his son & daughter-in-law in that mission. Almost for 10 years, he stayed dormant as a guide. But things changed when he visited a house in Patthar Galli. He hoped to conduct one last successful mission as a guide. He took in two newcomers in his syndicate. New members came with their minds & doubts. Along with the mission, Acharyaji had a new responsibility to answer new members' questions and win their trust.
Good points about the book 1) Easy language usage 2) Nice character connection. 3) A new concept to read 4) the author has used various references to site excavation done in the last 100 years
The pace of the book is medium at places. Interest quotient was set high at some places but comes down at many places, which has affected overall reading experience.
I have always been a huge fan of adventurous reads especially those which involves chasing and some counter punches in terms of story line. So when I came across this book, the title intrigued me a lot and I find myself building castles in the air about how there will be an unravelling and excavation of some enormous amount of treasure buried inside some site of historical importance as they show in movies.
The book is centered around a person named Acharya Agnihotri who is always in search of some hidden riches to fulfill his destiny as a 'Nidhi-Palak' but he finds himself constrained due to some ill fate and an unfavourable past. Hence he decides to create a team of five which provides unification of purpose and the much needed impetus which the protagonist and the leader of the pack lacks. With various twists and turns and some dangerous encounters story moves forward.
The novel does really well on various fronts. With a crispy narration blended with a pinch of mythology, it offers a mixture of various genres. The way it ends gives a glimpse of more parts to come and author shaping it into a series. The cover is quite creative with fascinating colours. As it is a traditionally published book still the page quality, font size and formatting all are top notch. Looking forward to more work from author.
Well, who doesn’t like a treasure hunt story? For me, most of the times it is about the chase and the adventure of it all that makes it interesting. The value of the treasure rarely make any difference, after all, I am not going to get a cut, am I?
Jatin kuberkar tells us the story of a curse put on a King which resulted in assigning a guardian and forming of a group which is, now in the modern days, known as The Treasure Syndicate. Acharya Neelkanth Agnihotri is the current Guardian of The Treasure Syndicate and he has a team who help him hunt for hidden treasures. Jabbar, Kumar, Srikanth and Mahesh are the four other players in the story who each play their parts to add different flavours and bring a form to the overall plot.
A compelling mix of suspense, action and fantasy ’The Treasure Syndicate’ will see you ride on the crest of curiosity right till the end. Well crafted and beautifully narrated this story of a treasure hunt involving a motley group of five is unique in that each of its members stands for different attributes required to see the mission through. While Acharya Agnihotri as the ‘Nidhi-Palak’ stands for vision and fare-sightedness, Dr. Mahesh his nephew is the man who finances his missions secretly. He is the financier-cum-treasurer. Kumar an ordinary taxi driver has unfathomable luck on his side that’s needed to see a mission as secretive and dangerous as this one through without a hitch, and Jabbar is the man who with his uncanny ability as a master digger executes the job. Srikanth the odd man out though a common man holds the key to the success of the mission with his questioning mentality and foresight. Together they embark on a treasure hunt in a locality notorious for its granite quarries and accompanying mafia. With a failed mission that cost him dear behind his back the Acharya banks on luck and his crew to see him sail through this one and achieve success. Narrated in riveting style ‘The Treasure Syndicate’ is all about intelligence, foresight, team work and determination. It is the story of a mission undertaken for Lok kalyan.
Packed with suspense the story has its fair measure of twists and turns that are enough to keep the reader hooked. The characters each one, are well articulated and one can easily identify them with their strengths and weaknesses by entering their mind via the imagery created by the author. Each one of them takes the story forward in his/ her style thereby making it unique.
While the pace is steady, the language is crisp and devoid of unnecessary jargon that can spoil the mood. It helps maintain the flow that is crucial to the success of a story like this one.
VERDICT
A treasure hunt thriller that will leave you craving for more. Hope to read the next in the series for I believe there is one considering how the book ended, soon.
Jatin Kuberkar is a really engaging storyteller. With his book, "The Treasure Syndicate," he has managed to give a Dan Brown meets Indian mythology feel. Treasure plots are really interesting to read, I feel, with the reader suspended in as much suspense as the treasure hunters, rooting for them and fearing for them, by turns.
But specially, in this book, the way Jatin has drawn out the characters of the chosen treasure hunters, specially the character of the intriguing Acharyaji, while bringing in lesser known references from mythology, makes it a really engrossing read. I specially loved the life after treasure part at the end, which could also hint at a possible sequel. And for readers like me, who might love the mythological references in between the fast-paced treasure hunt, the end-notes are a great reference that show not just Jatin's imagination but also his detailed research, at work. Recommend the book highly.
A fine balance of thrilling twists and fantastic storytelling.
The treasure syndicate is a modern treasure hunt undertaken by Acharyaji and his team. The author has a grip over the narrative and he doesn't let the reader get bored. You will chuckle at some places and bite your nails in some. I loved the way the characters were drawn, each with character flaws and strengths. My takeaway from the book was: One must trust the intent fully; look beyond the obvious.
I'm sure there will be a sequel to this, the way the book ended. I'm eagerly awaiting Book #2.
As Picasso once said, “Everything you can imagine is real.” Author fits this to the T by imagining a lot yet shaping them close to reality. The story is told sincerely and realistically befitting today's space generation. Author created an excellent story intertwining dots like treasure hunting, oneirology and secret societies to form a pleasantly surprising and thoroughly indulging plot. Narration needs additional commendation as it seems as if the characters sprang to life. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Waiting for treasure hunts and much more from this author!!
I am into thriller novels des days and was wondering about my next pick when my friend suggested me to go for this book once. The Treasure Syndicate is centred around five main characters, Acharya being the major one. He is the leader of the group. The other 4 members are- Jabbar (digger), Kumar (driver), Shrikant (common man), and lastly Mahesh (doctor). Together they form the syndicate and move onto a constructive journey. The author has very carefully crafted the story, showcasing the background of characters, hardships faced by them individually as well as collectively, their conflict and resolution. The storyline has thrill content as well as the required suspense. The language is simple and hence even beginners can give it a try. Overall, I liked the asthetic of the book and I am thankful to my friend for the suggestion.
Cover Page: The cover apart from the Title has 2 semicircles, one with 5 lines and other consisting of a star. Then in the middle, you will find 5 silhouettes surrounded in darkness but where they stand they have light. So it is an apt cover for the book, as once you read it everything, seems connected.
Review: The book is all about 5 Individuals, Acharya, Mahesh, Jabbar, Kumar, and Srikanth. How they get connected, what's their connection with treasure is the book all about. The Story flows and never bores you. But I had to pay extra attention as if you missed it, you missed it.
The positives in the book are first the narration. The author has explained each and every aspect of the book, which I felt like when its gonna get over. Even when I had completed the book around 160 pages and was discussing with mom about how much to rate the book, as I was waiting for something to happen and it didn't. So was telling her I will give a 3 or a 4. But that evening when I completed the book, I was like the ending was not at all expected. And It just wowed me.
The Treasure Syndicate by Jatin Kuberkar is the story of Aacharya Agnihotri who spends his entire lifetime chasing the secretly buried treasures across the world.
As a direct bloodline of an ancient sect, he possesses the power of being attracted to these sites like magnet. But to excavate the treasure he has to organize a syndicate of five members without which his mission cannot be successful.
This novel is the story of such a treasure hunt. The plot of the book is absolutely fresh and fast paced. The readers will be introduced to never before heard mythology, rules and ordeals of a treasure hunt. The author has attempted something very different from the usual romantic, mythology and crime stuff and has rightfully succeeded in his endeavour.
In a nutshell, it is one of the finest books I read in the past year and shall highly recommend to others.
This isn't the usual treasure hunting tale that you hear.
The story is a gripping thriller which became unputdownable as soon as I reached the page 50 and I read it in two sittings. The narration has suspense and is peppered with humour at times. And the twists and turns kept me at the edge of my seat. When the story started, I was a little confused as to where it is leading, but a few pages down I was hooked. I loved the characterization, each character's flaws and strengths. Acharyaji's wife was a pretty curious character though.
When I was approached for a review for this book, I didn’t hesitate because I had read the author before, and the title and cover art were very interesting. To be frank, I didn’t check the blurb, which meant the story was a complete surprise to me. Sometimes that’s a good thing, and this was one of those times.
Loved: - that it was engaging from start to finish - the premise, which helped the first point a lot too - the characters, so different
Would definitely reread. I'd say this book is much better than Jatin's previous book for sure!
Every time I read thrillers that tie the present to the past, the science to mythology and stories from India's culturally rich heritage transcending centuries, I feel a different sense of pleasure and pride. This book gave me the same in abundance. The story hooks you from page one and made me wish I had a weekend to myself to read this much sooner than I did. It is narrated in a way that all stories and the layers of the mysterious Treasure Syndicate are revealed in a very timely manner to the reader and there is never a dull moment in the book. A treasure hunt is worth the thrill, joy & sense of satisfaction it brings to the person reading about it and this hunt had it all.
Adventure! Mythology! Thrill! The amazing book by Jatin Kuberkar is a beautiful combination of engaging storytelling and gripping narrative. Right from the word go, this novel takes you through a convoluted, yet wonderfully stitched plot that will keep you on the edge. The characters are extremely relatable in their turmoils and journeys and I could feel myself running around with them throughout the novel. Definitely one of the best novels I have read this season! Kudos to Jatin!!
I can guess with being 100% sure that you definitely watched any treasure hunting movie once in your life.. if you really liked that movie.. then you'll definitely would like to read the treasure syndicate.
Story is just like treasure hunting with new story, new characters and new treasure also... From first page to last it'll keep you in love with it...
This book will show that how one character who has nothing to do with any treasure will find a team and with the help of team they get a treasure which can help them to become rich...
I got it very earlier but completed it few days back..
So.. it's a overall good book with old concept but new with every other aspect it should be...
This is all I can say.. otherwise it could be spoilers.. so no spoilers..
I would definitely recommend this book to all avid readers..
A secret set of people ( Guardians) who are experts in finding treasures. Acharya is one of them and forms the team that will work on the latest identified treasure location. The team formed is a motley set of people half of whom are sceptics. Then there is the problem of acquiring the property . As if that's not tough enough the property owner's best friend is very suspicious of the group and is against his friend selling the property. Jatin has taken this set up and created the impossible - a page turner of a novel. The concept is novel and he has pulled it off brilliantly. Each character has been fleshed out. The history of guardians has been explained in detail without making it boring. The chemistry between the characters adds to the pace of the book. A book that I would strongly recommend to lovers of adventure and thriller.
Neelkanth Agnihothri referred to as Acharya, belongs to the blood line of Nidhi-Palaks, the successors of Lord Kubera, who are the trusted guardians of treasures across the world. In an attempt to continue the responsibility passed on to him from his father, Acharya starts forming a treasure syndicate again after losing his son and daughter-in-law in the last excavation. As per the norms of the syndicate, he includes the other four members — Dr Mahesh his nephew as the financier, Jabber the expert land digger, Kumar a common man with unflinching luck and Mahesh alike of his son, the final fifth person to balance out this adventure. Acharya gets signals about another dormant treasure waiting to be excavated; will this new team that Acharya formed as the Syndicate be able to succeed in their proposed mission forms the rest of the story.
While the title, blurb and cover suggest the story is about a treasure hunt, it is not a cliched one that we expect from a treasure hunt story. The author builds a solid background story of the syndicate connecting it to mythology and history along with the rules and practices for the members. The conversations between the characters are intelligent and the character graphs are constructed well. The suspense is also built slowly as the reader would be curious to know if the existence of treasure is real or Acharya’s obsession of carrying forward his family legacy. The characters also add to the mystery as each of them have their own doubts and take on this adventure.
Acharya’s character is bound to impress the readers with his enigma; the author makes effort to turn every character endearing while being practical and with their own unique traits so as not to be lost as a group. The story at the beginning takes sometime to get into its groove; also the narration keeps getting slow at places. If these minor glitches can be ignored, the story stands out for its impressive storyline, strong characters, intelligent storytelling and impressive narration.
Strung together by coincidence, fate and destiny, the mission is not a cakewalk. The dangers are life threatening and at times the stakes are even bigger than matters of life and death. Will they succeed?
With unlimited treasure spots to be hunted and with the right characters, it has all the ingredients to become a franchise. The Treasure Syndicate by Jatin Kuberkar ticks more boxes than not; I am going with three and half stars for this thrilling treasure hunting story. It is a good one time read.
The Treasure Syndicate by Jatin Kuberkar is a fiction based on a treasure hunt.
The story starts with Acharya, the main lead, learning about the treasure and then devising a plan to get the treasure. It also revolves around Acharya and the members of his syndicate, the group of treasure hunters, how they all come together, their lives and how this heist changes their lives.
The story begins in a cryptic manner leaving one confused. I for one had to re-read the beginning as I reached chapter 3. The storyline picks up from there and it becomes an engaging one too. The characters drawn by the author are absolutely realistic. The plot and the situations are well woven. The story makes one believe the story.
Overall it is an interesting and engaging read which is well worded and well written barring a few errors. Treasure hunt stories are often too predictable and the author has done a commendable job by giving a storyline not generally imagined.
The perks of being a professional book reviewer include many things. One of the best of them is to getting exposed to new talents. Reading "The Treasure Indicate" by Jatin Kuberkar is one such interesting experience. The book is a good blend of a thriller with mythology.
The Plot: The story revolves around many characters but the prominent 5 are 1) Acharya - the head of the team, the most intelligent, wise and mysterious among them all. 2) Jabbar - a gifted digger whose skills are unparallel. 3) Mahesh - a doctor by profession, nephew of Acharya, he lives his life king size. 4) Kumar - a driver by profession, he is lucky to escape all the challenging situations. 5) Shrikant - a common man who is not very decisive. He has yet to make big in his life.
Fate brings them all together for a task.
While working on the task they came to meet many other characters like Satish, Iqbal, Mishraji,...
As the book title suggests, the task is about a treasure hunt. Is there actually a treasure or they are just hitting the thin air? How did they get a hint that there is a treasure? How do they plan to get possession of the treasure? And, what will be the outcome of their efforts? It is obvious to expect some hurdles in their path, what are the hurdles they need to fact and will they be able to overcome them all?
A lot of questions! They are better to get answered by reading the book, rather than talking about it.
Views And Reviews: I like the pace of the book. The first chapter doesn't look that convincing. But, you are still getting introduced to what is happening. And the incident explored there is referred many times in the book, so it is significant indeed. It is after the team is set up, the book picks the pace, and then it remains a thrilling experience till the end.
I like the way the characters are introduced and explored. Though they are going to do heroic work, they are not filmy heroes. Each of them has his own vulnerabilities, and that makes them real.
Usually, when you are reading stories having roots in ancient literature or mythology, you need to put the logic aside many a time. This book is a pleasant surprise in that aspect. It tries to reason the actions and reactions both.
The book becomes a psychological thriller at places. Actually, more than the physical actions, it is the internal conflict almost all the characters are fighting for.
The bibliography at the end is another positive aspect of the book.
I sincerely wish that the book should have been available at a reduced rate.
"The Treasure Syndicate" by Jatin Kuberkar is a rollercoaster of a book.
It's about a team of five men, led by Acharya Agnihotri who embark on a satisfying treasure hunt. Because of one tragic event from his past, Acharya leaves no stone unturned in trying to ensure that the mission is a success. Mahesh finances their mission. Kumar is a lucky charm. Jabbar is a a dexterous digger. Srikanth is a common man with secrets of his own. Destiny and fate bring them together in what turns out to be a dangerous yet intriguing journey.
Peppered with wisdom from the ancestors of the syndicate, the story shifts from historical accounts to present day, which makes each event even more meaningful.
What I liked most about the characters was that each had a different personality. I didn't remember them just by their names. The writing is also good.
The book does start as a slow burn adventure, but towards the end, there are many twists and turns which kept me hooked.
For someone like me who experiments with books of different genres, it was a good read.
If you have been always fascinated by stories of hidden treasure and excavation, you will enjoy "The Treasure Syndicate" by Jatin Kuberkar. This is a story of how people from different walk of life meet and form a syndicate which hunts down an age old treasure. As pages unfold, you get to know about the challenges the group face, their internal conflict, and how they taste success in the end. It is a gripping narrative with such lucid description that you can visualize the scenes before your eyes. All the characters are well sketched and identifiable. The chapters narrating the formation of the group and the treasure hunt operation are really intriguing and interesting. The author also explains the philosophy behind hunting buried treasures really well and it stays with the reader. I started off slow but then got completely engaged in the book; and I can ascertain you would not be able to put this one down too, once you start reading. Recommending this unique book to all thriller lovers!
This book is a treasure hunt which includes excavations, the challenges, the fights and also the reasons why the treasure hunt is important. The author has made references from mythology which makes the premise more interesting. The characters are well developed and well described and the scenes have been described vividly and could be visualised easily. I'm waiting for the sequel to this book.
I literally never like to read about treasure hunts much. But, this book has changed my perception regarding the same. It is not just another treasure hunt book. Its amazing and its much more. This book is a perfect blend of mythology, fiction, amazing background stories of characters and historical touch. At many points I was forced to think whether the historical story it is telling is real or just a fiction writing. This is a great work, and everyone who loves to read fiction or just in case dislikes treasure hunt type stories, you will definitely start loving it from here.
Treasure hunting, though an interesting subject to many, is a walk on blade's edge for any author. One has to balance narration with extreme care, not to overdo the adventure part (turns real bad real soon) and to keep readers engrossed in the plot and surprise them while they keep guessing what comes next. Author did a cent % justice to his Syndicate. Author has really mastered in character selection and plot unfolding techniques. Waiting for more from this author!!
Those who like stories about hunting for treasure, particularly a story related to Indian mythology, will like this book. The story is a smooth read with a twist at the end. The author is a good storyteller with a vivid imagination.
Why I enjoyed reading this book? All these dominated this book by Jatin Kuberkar.
- Simple language - Engagement is maintained - Mixing adventure with mythology makes it interesting - Touching upon the Dark Arts without giving horrid details - Who doesn't want a treasure? ;-)
