This was my 2nd grade reading book in 1983. I loved it back then. It's out of print now, but I was able to find a copy on a used book website. I use this for my kids who I homeschool. The stories are challenging, but not too hard, and there a beautiful mid-century style illustrations. There is also no agenda or manipulation in the stories. They are just age-appropriate stories that help kids learn to read. I would recommend this whole series as well, by the same author, published by Ginn & Co.
