They’re fighting on the same side.
They just don’t know it yet.

Skye Chantrell has just escaped a war zone. She’s carrying the stolen antidote to a deadly bioweapon.

When her damaged shuttle crashes on a remote lunar outpost, she’s captured by the leader of a rogue group of alien vigilantes. Now her people’s survival—not to mention her own—rests in the hands of the Seven Systems’ most feared and hated fugitives.

Hunter Tarthasian and his ragtag band of revolutionaries have every reason to hate the corrupt Ilarian Regime. Branded as criminals, hunted like animals, they’ve holed up in an abandoned outpost to plan their next move.

The last thing they need is a female human civvy with a terrible secret crash-landing on their doorstep. Especially when she starts to awaken feelings in Hunter that have no place in his life as a rebel leader.

Feelings that could very easily get all of them killed.

USA Today bestselling author R. A. Steffan lives in New Mexico, where the sunsets paint the mountains purple, and roadrunners roam the desert endlessly in search of their coyote victims. When she’s not busy writing stories about people loving each other in all sorts of different and interesting ways, she can be found taking care of her small menagerie of critters.

A rebel to the core, she is currently sticking it to the man by illegally harvesting graywater from the kitchen and bathroom sinks to water trees outside. This fearless disregard for societal norms extends to her writing, as well. There, you will find polyamory along with straight, gay, bisexual, and non-gender conforming love of all flavors. You will also find families of choice, profound friendships, adventure, danger, and good triumphing over evil.

That, and sex. Lots of sex. Most of which is not the vanilla variety.

Why isn't this series more well-known?
I'll start by saying I'm not a stranger to R. A. Steffan's writing: from tribal fantasy with shapeshifters and poly romances to urban vampire romances, I've been hooked on the author's range and her ability to craft fast-pacing, thrilling, sexy stories. But this? I did not expect this.
Love and War is a sci-fi romance complete with aliens, biochemical weapons, cybogs, nanotechnology and power struggles. It's probably the author's most political work (that I've read so far) and you know what? It's bloody excellent. Even if this genre is not your favorite (it's not mine either), do yourself a favor and pick up this series. You'll find a family of choice with fascinating characters, meticulous world-building and attention to detail and sizzling scenes (m/f for the most part, although one book is m/m and it's one of the best in the series, please don't skip it).
Hunter and his band of misfits may be living in a world different than ours but they sure struggle with tough issues like loss of family members, PTSD and sexual trauma, substance abuse, homophobia, racism (well, speciesism in this case)... And while these issues could have been mentioned just for the heck of it, R.A. Steffan always treats her characters with care, making sure that their journey towards healing will be both an authentic and a satisfying one.
Now, let's get these series featured in some lists out there, shall we?

i was suprised and compleatly blown away by all 5 books in this emotinal series.
i have read all comments on these books and i realy wonder why not more people are reading these amazingly written Books.
I picked them up by chance when i was just looking for a fun audiobook to pass a long weekend and i found new friends in this rag tag team of characters. I'll be sure to visit them often and enjoy the love friendship and family the writer has so briliantly put on the page.
The author has done an amazing job when i feel every emotion in a book and forget the real world for a time and relax into the world the've created.
I could feel every loss and i wished the end would never have to come but as life goes all things must come to an end even when it hurts just a little.

Reread it and god i cant get over how much i love these books they again made my days lol i wish there was more about these characters that ive fallen in love with so deeply.

This series set in the future about the cultural war between humans and non-humans was very intriguing. I loved the romantic connections in each book based on one couple each. Bravo, well done!

Very nice

Very nice set of related stories - read in order. Incredible world build with functional, believable tech. Three or four species introduced and relatably developed - and connected 😊. Long war story with pain and loss on a planet torn by racial unrest and injustice fomented by a fascist narcissist. (Sound familiar?). Well done all around.

Alien love and war

So many HEAs around much suffering and strife make for great reading. A few grammatical errors and misspellings caused the four out of five.
