After her parents’ death, Sarah felt as if there were no luck left in the world. With her siblings’ newly out of the house, she’s free, for the first time in years, to do something just for her. So when her best friend surprises her with tickets to Dublin for the week of St. Patrick’s Day, she’s thrilled.
Dublin during St. Paddy’s is where her parents met, and she had always sworn that once she was old enough to enjoy the festivities, she would go and experience it. Now, she’s on a mission to reconnect with her parents’ past and visit the places in their photographs. But when she falls—literally—into the arms of an attractive if snarky Irishman at a pub, Sarah might just have to add another quest to her list: find out said man’s name…and relationship status?

"Lucky Fall" by L. Austen Johnson was a very short read!
Sarah Faulk at 19 years old is guardian of her two younger siblings after her parents die in a car accident. Now, 22 years old and with both siblings in college Sarah can take a deep breath and finally begin thinking about her personal life again! BFF Christine, knowing how hard the last few years have been for Sarah, surprises her with ticket to Dublin, Ireland for the week of St. Paddy's Day! That's where and when her parents met! She has pictures of their meeting and now Sarah may be able to visit the same places for herself. But a vacation? Now? Well, heck yeah!
This is the first book in the 'Romancing the Holidays' Rom-com series by this author, all four novella's are standalone books. This one is the shortest at 25 pages and quickly gets to the heart of the story! It does have a beginning, middle and end - but it may be just a bit too brief! However, I did like it for its cuteness of story, the main characters and love of family!
Romancing the Holidays: 1/4 Novellas ~1/4>LUCKY FALL<~ Honestly, who refers to someone as "the beautiful, cocky man" and their best friend "the woman?" Haha!
This was a short novella that had a still somewhat developing plot, but it's hard to write a successful romance novella that is only thirty pages long, and somehow L. Austen Johnson seemed to do just that and it was adorable.
Obviously, I can't be too judgemental because I'm not getting a lot to work with and Lucky Fall was only so short. However, there were some issues that caused this section of the book to receive four stars. One, Sarah's best friend, Cristine got married to a man who supposedly loved her and maybe it was just because the time span of a few months was only written in a few short pages and they were going to get married eventually or maybe it was just simply because they were stupid 20-year-olds "in love." I was physically cringing when reading that part. Sorry, but it's just hard not to be judgemental in this situation. And two, it was just too short. I feel like this novella could've been a little longer, I need a little bit more here! Which caused the plot to not be fully developed and thought out, but other than those things I've mentioned, this 1/4 of Johnson's "Romancing The Holidays" was rather enjoyable.
When I signed up for this book at one of my favorite book review sites, I hadn't realized that the book was so very, very short. It is a 23-page novella. As you might imagine, that doesn't really allow much time for any level of characterization or formation of a decent plot. This was exacerbated by the fact that the book started with one of the most prodigious information dumps I've seen. In fact, the entire first 9% of this novella is front matter and that data dump I was telling you about. So nearly a tenth of the book is an info dump. The book even started off rather dully with a discussion about the weather. If you intend to write a very short piece of fiction, you have to make every word count, and unfortunately, this author did not do so.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
This is a sweet romance between Sarah and Bash who meet when she takes a vacation in Dublin. It's a short , fast paced novella and is an entertaining story I enjoyed reading.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
A short but quick romance novella. But too short and too fast paced in the romance department for my liking. Still a good read, but would love to see more.
