This thrilling, plot twisting tale will change your views on storytelling forever.
JaQuavis Coleman also writes (with Ashley Antoinette) as "Ashley & JaQuavis".
JaQUAVIS COLEMAN, the New York Times best-selling author of Dopeman’s Trilogy, first burst onto the scene at the age of eighteen and quickly became a nationwide literary phenomenon. He and his wife Ashley Antoinette have coauthored numerous “street fiction” classics. With the birth of the Cartel series, the “Ashley and JaQuavis” brand took off. In 2013, twenty-seven-year-old Coleman was honored by Ebony magazine as being one of the Top 100 most influential African Americans in the country.
I listened to the audio version and I think the narrator was the right fit for the story. With that said, I don't think this is Jaquavis' best work, it was jumpy and I was having a hard time focusing on it. I'll probably reread it at some point, like most of his books.
This book was really bad. From the errors on almost every page, to the fast paced storyline, and to none of the characters being likable. So much was going on and that’s not a good thing. Skipping from scene to scene from past to present to the dreams it was too much for me. I did like how the pieces to the puzzle finally got connected but it took til the end of the book to get a spark out of me. Disappointed is the only word I can find to say how I feel about this book and we still don’t know what happened to Fonz so that’s another cliffhanger smh
This book was okay. The concept of this book was great, the execution was lacking. I love the cover art of this book, and the title is even more meaningful having read the book, but the writing left a lot to be desired. I really enjoyed the plot twist, but not enough to make this 3 stars. The book was also very brief which means that the characters weren't developed enough, helpful for the mystery surrounding our painter, Bless. Annd I'm just going to say it, the erotic scenes were not well written. Yikes. Also, the problematic Doctor who slept with her patient? We're just going to breeze right past that? I was rooting for no one. In the end I didn't even like Bless. I will try another book by this author, this was not the one for me.
This book was trash. I gave it one star because it was a decent story, but the book itself was littered with errors. Was the female character named Shawna or Shawana? I highlighted ever single error throughout the book. There must have been some sort of deadline with the publisher, because the story felt incomplete. The introduction of the characters was rushed and he never tied them completely together. Come back and explain how he used Dr. Ose to get Fonz and all the little details of Bless' plan! And the ending! Most anticlimactic ever. Just abrupt! Terrible
The ending of this book blew my mind.. I absolutely loved it. I didn't want it to end. I would definitely recommend this book and the one before it to anyone
My only negative review is that there was way to many typos and grammatical errors as if the book didn’t see an editor beforehand. There were names that changed in one scene or so which made me confused. Very random. But other than that the actual story was great. Anything with Jaquavis name on it I prepare myself. This story played out like a movie as I was reading it. It’s crazy how everything came about full circle. The entire ending gave me lifetime movies feels. To be as strategic as Bless you have to have a great deal of patience. Great read !
Sigh. Highly disappointed in this book. Too many spelling and grammatical errors for this seasoned writer. In one part, he referred to the same girl by three totally different names in the span of 2 sentences. I felt like i was waiting for a climax that never happened. The build up was unnecessary. And the end of the book left me feeling like it was a waste of time.
4.5 The narrator's voice was just right for this story-hard yet soothing, and held me captive throughout. While I didn't read the previous installment, it was evident that Bless and Queen shared a powerful love. Though short, the story gave all the necessary information as the ending provided a shocking conclusion
Very very disappointed with this book... The story was all over the place, most characters had no story line but were thrown in there, you'll expect to hear more about them but then it goes left. I don't want to spoil too much but this wasn't worth the read. I can't even believe JaQuavis wrote this. A lot of errors, like it was rushed and never went through an editor. Very short, read it in an hour.
This was a good story! Fonz got out of prison and had a job as a chauffeur for a nerdy black artist; so he thought. Bless was really a drug dealer who was paid. Fonz thought he was an easy hit, so he set him. His sister and her boyfriend were supposed to rob Bless. You gotta read the book to find out the twist. I definitely didn't see it coming!
Good short listen. The narration was good. The story has lots of twists that were unexpected. I would have liked more character development. Bless really surprised me! Poor Shawna.
4.5 stars.
This was my first read of the series… out of order, I know. But now I’m anxious to read The Streets Have No King.
I agree with everyone else. This book was bad and all over the place. It seems as if it was just thrown together to hurry up and meet a deadline. It’s strange to me because I have read several other books by this author and none of them were even close to being written as poorly as this one.
Good and fast read. 3.5 stars The pros: Great premise, twist and turns. The cons: No character development. At all. The therapist, Dr. Ose? Was her hair natural or in a sleek bob? As a natural she can obviously change it up. But, it just seemed like a lack of continuity. I also saw typos (ie one minute Shawna, the next Shawn). The abrupt ending. Honestly it was probably too fast of a read for character growth or arcs. But there are certain things as a reader I'd like to know. When did Fonz recruit Red and Shawna? Why no epilogue? Bless is ambushed in his own home. He's grieving his dead wife. His only love and high school sweetheart. He was set up by an employee named Fonz. The couple that ambush him are facing their own struggles. One is a former hitman for hire named Red that was in a bad car accident that not only ruined his face, but worsened his mental health. His girlfriend and accomplice Shawna is Red's prisoner. Their "love story" is touched on in flashbacks. As is Bless's. It's definitely worth a look. .
Bless is morning the death of his beloved wife, Queen. At first glance, he suggests to be this mysterious, laid back guy who moves lavishly…in silence. Then one fateful night changes it all. Three individuals confined to one house, and the events that led up this moment will blow your mind.
It was refreshing to see a blast from the past and how they tied into this book. I loved the plot and the plot twist was pure genius. My familiarity with @realjaquavis had me wondering who and when the axe would fall, and he did not disappoint. My favorite character is definitely Bless and the least favorite is Shauna. She gave me selfish, opportunistic vibes and got every bit of what she deserved. ✨ "Honor your mother and your father, that your days may be long on this land…" ✨ I highly recommend this page turner (book so nice…I copped it twice), which had a few minor errors. I don't know what took me so long to read it, but I'm so glad that I did.
The Streets Have No Queen did not excite me the same way The Streets Have No King did. By following the Coleman’s, I knew that the story line would be different but I still thought it would link more to TSHNK. The plot twist of how he got to Red was brilliant but other than that, the book just didn’t do it for me.
This was a good book, Bless was a artist living in grief after the tragic death of his wife Queen, after meeting his new driver his is set to be rob. Little did they know he isn’t the one to be played!!
This book could have been better if it wasn’t so many grammatical errors, I paid too much money for the book not to be edited correctly.
