Lori is a beautiful nurse who is never seen without perfect hair and makeup. But nobody has ever fallen in love with her, and she's starting to worry that nobody ever will. She is powerfully affected by a young girl's death in the ER one night. It's time, she realizes, to stop waiting around for a man to change her life and to instead embrace her life as a single woman.

Her first step will be to buy herself a house. Enter the gorgeous but seemingly shallow real estate agent, Jake, who has the nerve to hit her up for business even as she's caring for his injury in the ER.

Their attraction is undeniable, but Lori is determined to avoid getting entangled with the wrong sort. So is Jake. Soon, but not soon enough, she learns how badly she has misjudged him. By the time she realizes the truth, it's too late. Is their love and passion strong enough to overcome hurt feelings and misunderstandings?

Sophia is a small-town Midwestern girl to the core whose books build on each other like the written version of the world's longest romantic movie. She spends her free time performing unnecessarily complicated culinary feats in her kitchen and dreaming up home improvement projects for her husband to do in their fixer-upper Victorian. Her greatest accomplishment so far has been either raising two wonderful children who love to read or designing and digging a goldfish pond by herself. Probably the goldfish pond; it's really cool.

Nice

What I genuinely like about contemporary romance is when it’s about the drama of adults acting like adults. Lori has a good job, friends, and a full life before Jake crosses her path. Jake has a good job, friends, family, and a full life before Lori crosses his path. They have to mutually decide whether or not they want to make room for the other person. Being in a relationship requires effort. Too many romance writers skip creating well-developed characters and focus on outlandish scenarios that force people together.

It was a good book. I liked these characters but I think things moved way too fast at the end. I liked that Lori was herself unapologetically and Jake loved her exactly as she was

The second book in this series I though was better than the first. Still trying to get used to the author.
