This book was good but it was kind of sad and emotional as well.

This story revolved around a guy named Lawrence Beckett. He was a Lieutenant who served in Iraq. He returned home a different man with PTSD. He turned away his brother because of his issues with PTSD. He flips houses. He is renovating a house when he finds a secondary wall behind another wall. In this wall is a stained glass window.

His renovation project introduces him to a woman named Andie Lowman. Her father is in prison. She has a sister. Her sister is contacted by Beckett because of his renovation project. Her sister enlists her sister Andie’s help. Andie and Beckett meet and she has the contacts to help repair the window. Andie is a very kindhearted woman and Beckett is very rough around the edges because he is dealing with PTSD. Beckett is seeing a therapist in the story. He gets a service dog. I didn’t like how he kept pushing Andie away throughout the story. I think that he needed to do more groveling before this book ended.

Not all soldiers can hide their wounds, and Larry Beckett is one whose wounds keep him up at night, even after he gets a therapy dog. But a renovation of a house reveals two walls where only one should be and hidden between them is a stained glass picture, itself with wounds that need to be repaired.

Beckett is introduced to Andie Lowman, someone who knows about art, especially glass art, although she's no longer practicing what she was trained, and loves, to do. But together, they seek the help of an older man, who also happens to be a veteran, and they begin to repair the picture. In doing so, they also begin the slow work of repairing each others' hurts.

But is Beckett too wounded to accept what Andie has to offer? She has to decide if she's willing to be rejected. How all this works out makes for a compelling read, and one that sheds light on so much that is real today--in returning vets and the family members and friends that love them.

I enjoyed my first read from this author. Loved the research she'd done about repairing a stained glass window. The storyline was excellent and Andie and Beckett's love story was perfect. And Phoebe, his therapy dog, was a sweet addition. Looking forward to reading more from Syndi Powell.

This is a great book to read. Its a book that is hard to put down. Meeting Lawrence Beckett is special. For every soldier comes back carrying scars of some kind. Its interesting how Syndi explores that issue and how she brings Andie Lowman as the heroine. For they are opposites. This new series brings interesting people together that deal with unique situations. In this one its a stained glass window. The ties to this window will really surprise you in so many ways. I like the way she writes this story. For there is a mystery to solve and it takes a while to solve it. Then there is a problem that needs fixing and it brings a unique group of people together. It also has a tie to the mystery and to the people working on the project. It makes a interesting book to read. I found myself tied to the book for I could relate to the characters. I can't wait to see what is next in this series. J
