A Diverse Journey within a Graded Reader

In this excellent fin-de-siècle piece of fiction, the author and publisher have put together an easy graded reader with a flair for story-telling. This story, which takes place in Washington and in Patagonia, is an easy level 2. It can be read in one sitting without much difficulty. The following typical quote is included to give an idea of difficulty level, and of the picturesque language.

"Los ríos buscan el mar. Los témpanos se mueven por encima del agua, un agua azul y tranquila. Son los campos de hielo. Glaciares que van a morir en las aguas del lago Argentino. La tierra se abre dura y negra. El hielo tiene escaleras azules, escaleras de piedra y hielo."

I've been working my way back through these earlier books in the series this year, in preparation for reading some of the higher level books, to make more progress in my Spanish reading. This is one of my favorites, as far as the story goes. It has that flair for writing, and a deep story. The story seems fittingly set among glaciers of the South.

Since it is a graded reader, the key vocabulary is defined in Spanish in the back. Also, words are used frequently, giving the reader lots of practice at his/her level. I recommend this particular book as one of higher interest level than many.
