I’m not a wicked witch, but I’m not a good person either. How I came to be the newest recruit to the Dangerous Magic Division of Homeland Security is beyond me. It’s the first time I’ve ever tried to work with the law instead of against it, and, believe me, good doesn’t come naturally for me.

But between a psychic who has no idea how to use her powers and a partner who cares more about rules than actually getting the job done, I feel like I’m the glue holding this team together.

All of my new colleagues have their own secrets, but we’re going to have to get along if we’re supposed to help the humans of the world survive. When the pretty simple missions we’re assigned start pointing to a bigger plan, every single one of my well honed instincts tart screaming at me that something is wrong.

Because I start to suspect something sinister has infected our new team. Something dark and deadly and we’re only going to be able to stop it if we work together. But how can humanity trust us to save them if we can’t even trust each other?

REVIEW: BLOOD MAGIC is the first instalment in Melody Raven’s contemporary, paranormal DANGEROUS MAGIC sci-fi, urban fantasy series focusing on a powerful witch Sonia Shaw-a spin of from the author’s NEW BREED series.

Told from first person perspective (Sonia) BLOOD MAGIC follows Sonia Shaw, a witch of immense but unstable powers, as she embarks on a new career as a member of the Dangerous Magic Division of Homeland Security. With the Vopura, a new breed of alien vampire, slowly taking over the supernatural element, Sonia finds herself partnered with Carter Blackburn, a paranormal of unknown origins, but a man who has reason to hate our story line heroine. With the introduction of Carter’s fiancée Amy, Sonia struggles to accept the woman at face value. What ensues is Carter and Sonia’s search for a nest of Vopura, and the search for the truth when Sonia becomes the target of someone hoping to take them down.

BLOOD MAGIC is a story of betrayal and vengeance; of secrets and magic; of power and control. Melody Raven pulls the reader into a fast paced, entertaining and energetic tale; an introductory story line that allows the reader a peak into a rag-tag group of magical beings whose job it is to control the uncontrollable.

A Snark Filled Naughty Witch Turns Over A New Leaf!!😂✨💥 4.5 Stars 🌟
Blood Magic (Dangerous Magic Book 1)

I LOVED this first book in this brand new series!💗 The main character, Sonia, has gained added amounts of power after an attack, it occurred in the final book of the 'New Breed' Series 😉, although we didn't really meet her we were present for the attack!!😱 Since then she's had a massive shift of priorities, she's gone from a wanted thief to becoming an Agent for a special squad at HomeLand Security!😳👍

The team is Carter, he loathes her most of the time as he thinks she should be behind bars, he's the Team Leader & the 'Real Cop' of the team, Nico who's a techno whiz, Flora, a numbers expert who can follow the money trail anywhere, new recruit Gabbie, a possible psychic & then there's Melanie who's their big Boss who just set up the Dangerous Magic Division and hired her!!😃 They're meant to take on the magical elements other Agencies aren't equipped to deal with.💥

This is a cross between a police procedural & a paranormal book, in all the best ways 😍 Its snarky & amusing, has a growing tension & also has a surprising emotional depth that punches you in the heart, especially at the end!!😱😭💔 I can't wait for book #2 I just hope it keeps up with this one's great promise!🙏💕

An enjoyable read, with a not-so-nice heroine who brings the snark and the attitude. Former grifter witch turned police consultant with the Magic Division - Sonia is at a turning point in her life. Her magic, has gone into the stratosphere, thanks to almost being killed (off page) but she can't really trust her new powers, or actually knows how to use them. But she doesn't let that deter her from trying to start over.
Liked how Sonia was trying to get to know her fellow cops. And brings Gabbi into the fold.

My biggest problem with this tale was the plot - it started as one thing, get Dodge, the big bad and bring down the Vopura baddies - and that was going along nicely - but then suddenly the plot shifted and we are trying to establish whether Amy is bad and why she's sunk her hooks into Carter. Um... you didn't wrap up plot number one, suddenly I'm off on a tangent and that doesn't get solved either.
I'm never told why Sonia suspects Amy. And her going off to the bar (at night when the Vopura are at their strongest) seems suicidal and stupid.

There's a nice little twist at the end. But felt like the author piled on several cliff hangers, and let a lot of threads dangling.
Though I liked Sonia, this lack of continuity with the plot and the dreaded cliffhanger will probably mean I won't be pursuing this series any further. Liked Sonia very much, but the story failed to do her justice.

Idk, not magnificent, not bad. Since the rest of the series is in Kindle Unlimited, I may continue if I'm looking for a mindless read. Certainly not going to the top of my TBR pile, but it wasn't a bad read. It served its purpose as a break from reality.

Purchased Kindle edition free from Amazon.

Why wasn’t this longer?

I loved this. The characters, especially Sonia and Agent Hard A$$, were a lot of fun to follow. I liked how the plot progressed, and after that one-two punch ending, I’m picking up book (novella?) 2 right now.

Blood Magic -Book 1

Great reading.Love the different traits each person had and how they used them for good. Magic can be used for good according to the department. Highly recommend reading.

Blood Magic by Melody Ravin is the first in a new series Dangerous Magic.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Note: this review contains spoilers!
The characters are fascinating and the action can go from sleepy to rollercoaster fast in the blink of an eye! The author has populated her world with witches, werewolves, vampires, and other magical creatures that keep things interesting!
So of course there has to be a police force, kind of one anyway, to deal with them. There’s the witch who got her witch powers supersized unexpectedly and hasn’t figured out how to use them. Then there’s the leader of the team and nobody knows what his power is. They recruit a psychic and try and teach her how to trigger visions. And that’s only part of the team.
And they are on a mission to prove their worth. The first mission goes well and everybody is pleased, but the second and unofficial mission isn’t that easy. Sonia Shaw, our witch, has it on good authority that boss man’s girl is evil. And she is going to prove it if it kills her!
Maybe not much of a spoiler, but I really want you to read this book for yourself and discover this new, unique world. Will the good guys win? Is Sonia right?
And you won’t believe the ending!
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Questions that make you want the next book NOW!

A great start to a new series. A department that is set up with supernaturals misfits who have to prove their worth to get funding. She is a witch who has suffered a huge increase in power when they tried to use her as a sacrifice. Now instead of her life of crime she is going to be working in a new government department. He is keeping his status secret but can't hide the fact that he doesn't trust her. Although he has no problems with his boss or other two team members.
As they work their first cases (a bank robbery where they manage to pick up a psychic and taking down the leader of a new group of vampires) she comes across the fiancee of her team leader. Why does she try to find evidence against her? Why does her search end up with her in hospital? Who was the man buried in the grave she visited? Will she and her team leader come to terms or will one have to leave?
A great action filled read with a mouthy heroine and the foundations laid for a terrific series.

This is the first book in a spin off from the New Breed series. The book is told in first person with the main character, Sonia, being the most powerful witch in the world. She is part of a team that has formed with Homeland Security. There is no romance in this - just straight paranormal. The team is composed of Carter, the Team Leader & basically a cop with a secret ability, Nico, Flora, an a new recruit Gabbie.

The book is entertaining with Sonia and Carter working together and the ending is something else. You say "what"? I'm looking forward to reading the next one to see how everything will play out. I received an advance copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily giving my honest review.

WOW!! Blood Magic

I started reading this at first I thought man I'm really not liking where this is going ! But as I got into Blood Magic reading about Sonia and her partner Carter I began to wonder why she was partnered with him and how she knew what happened with his partner Ian . But as the story pulls together in the end and Carter loses yet another person but not to death.I felt.like man these two really can't catch a break and things are going to end up throwing them together and they will get a happily ever after! Not it didn't happen and in the very end when Ian comes back I'm thinking OH HELL NO!! Someone needed to run and fast because that's some.zombie apocalypse stuff going on right there!! I can't wait to read the next my pre order is in!!

I am so excited to see some of the characters we were introduced in the New Breed series take center stage in the Dangerous Magic series. Sonia is a very powerful witch. Unfortunately, with that amount of power comes instability and she has to work very hard to keep her powers in check. She starts working for a new department in Homeland Security of supernatural people who work on cases to help other people involved in dangerous supernatural cases. She works with Carter who doesn't fully trust her and that causes some issues, especially when Sonia meets his fiancee. All in all, I am excited to see where this series continues to go and I can't wait for book 2!

I really enjoyed this book! Sonia is such a sassy thing! I love her. The tension between her and Carter is off the charts and you can feel it jumping off the pages. I love this author's supernatural world. I love being surprised by reading something new in this genre. The auxiliary characters are interesting and I can't wait to read more about them. I will say when I read the epilogue my jaw dropped......like what??? Yes there is a dreaded cliffhanger at the end of this book but I know it will be worth it! I am impatiently waiting for book 2!!

Off to an explosive start!!

This is Blood Magic, book 1 of the Dangerous Magic series written by Melody Raven. What a great start for a new series. The Dangerous Magic Division has been created and they are set out on their first case. Sonia has a lot of new and uncontrollable power and a hidden agenda. She and Carter are paired up and are learning how to work together. This one has all kinds of goblins and shifters. Let’s sit back and enjoy watching them squirm!

I loved this introduction to Dangerous Magic Division. Sonia and her group are fantastic.
Each one is struggling with their own demons and has secrets hidden deep. I loved the mystery and suspense in their story. It captivated me as I turned each waiting for the next little clue to be revealed. The book ends in a tantalizing cliffhanger and I can’t wait for the next segment of their story.

Yes, a good starter, and an intriguing new series.

The characters are getting to know each other, and they all seem special and with great potential, blending in what promises to become a formidable team. And... they all have issues, which makes them human, after all...

I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Blood Magic,Dangerous Magic book one by Melody Raven. This is a great start to a new series! Loved the characters and the storyline! My only complaint is that it ended with a cliffhanger. But what a cliffhanger. I’m afraid I’ll have to read the next book.

I am always happy when I know halfway through the book that I am going to want to read the rest of the series.
