I👏🏾did👏🏾not👏🏾like👏🏾Jacori! Lemme say it again for the people in the back. I👏🏾did👏🏾not👏🏾like👏🏾Jacori! I don’t think I’ve ever disliked a MMC as much as I disliked this dude. Jacori was a dog azz ninja. He was a liar, he was a cheater, he was manipulative, he was selfish AF, he refused to respect boundaries, and he was a borderline narcissist. He strung Reese along and gaslit poor Asha until the last damn chapter of the book. Jacori had no redeeming qualities. Not a single one. The author tried to clean him up in the alternate ending but, the damage to his character had already been done.
Reese and Jacori meet at their parents wedding but, they are unaware that they’ve just become step siblings until after they were introduced. But, by then, they’re already feelin’ each other. Knowing her mama would have an entire fit if she and Jacori acted on their attraction, Reese shuts him down. But, Jacori is not havin’ it. For the entire summer, he is on Reese’s neck and wearin’ her down until she finally gives in the night before she leaves for college, and he starts his internship. Fast forward four years later. Reese has graduated from Spellman and moved back to Chicago, and she’s brought a truckload of secrets with her.
Jacori has never gotten over Reese. She’s the one who got away and when he finds out she’s back in Chicago, he makes a beeline to their parent to see her. He’s not prepared for the mature and older version of the girl who still owns his heart nor is he prepared for the bomb that’s dropped on him. But, Jacori is keepin’ secrets himself that will turn both of their lives upside down. Can’t Resist This Complicated Love was definitely a complicated love story. Reese and Jacori’s love journey was wrought with drama, secrets, and lies from the very beginning. I was not rooting for this couple. Jacori was a horrible MMC and, after all the shyt he pulled, I would have been perfectly okay if there had been no HEA in this book.

This was definitely a well written story….it was a little weird to me that step siblings have sex, have a baby and eventually enter into a full blown relationship….But, as always the author put together a well written story.

Spoilers* This book was a huge disappointment and I don’t understand the 5 star reviews. If this is what people look up to as a love story then I understand why love is so hard to come by. First, Jacori was an absolute narcissistic selfish jackass. Reese was a weak, gullible fool that had no self love towards herself because if she did she would never have allowed Jacori to play her like he did. She continued to sleep with him even after she found out about Asha, Jacori fiancé that his parents never even knew about until 6 weeks before they are supposed to marry and he continued to string both ladies along. Honestly, I felt bad for Asha and I would have dog their ass out to on social media after he left her at the alter. Then they had the nervessss to play the victim at the end. Not only that, who doesn’t tell their mom about them having a child?!! I mean they didn’t hate each other, she had no reason to do that even if she didn’t tell the father, I can kind of understand that but not telling her mom... Sheesh. I’ve read her books before and I loved them but this one wasn’t it.

After finding out about JJ, Jacori did very little to include Asha into any aspect of his life and his lying game was on point. All of his actions are of being with the one you love with Reese. However she is weak for him and still very much in love, causing her to take on a role that she shouldn't have. Deja and his friends are the type of friends that you need... tell it to you straight with no chaser. Love captured them and wouldn't let go, despite how it appeared to the outside.

If this isn't love
Wow! What a whirlwind. This story was complicated as heck, but I enjoyed it. Those Johnston men are relentless though. I love Deja's character as the ride or die bestie. Im glad Jacori finally came to his senses and claimed his woman. I almost pimp slapped Asha and choked Brielle. In the end, everybody got on some act right, and lived happily ever after. Great read!

Great story
Whew chile! These two frustrated me but they got it together. I didn't agree with Reese not telling him but I also understood it. I wanted to punch Jacori in the face a few times but he redeemed himself. Deja was a true friend and I'm glad she told Reese what she needed to hear, not what she wanted to hear. Everyone needs a honest friend like that. I neglected everything and everyone because I was so caught up reading.

Infuriating
I really wanted to like this story, but the more I read, the more annoyed I became. Like how can I root for this couple to make it when they were two of the most foolish, immature couple I have had the misfortune of reading about. Jacobi was a selfish jerk and Reese was his idiot doormat 😐 Best thing about this story was JJ.

Definitely a complicated love story
Reese hasn’t found love since Jacori but she’s been keeping a secret from Jacori and once she confesses her secret she’s afraid he will never forgive her. Jacori was left heartbroken when Reese left him to go to school without even a goodbye but no matter how hard he tried over the last four years he cant get Reese off his mind, even when he finds out about Reese’s secret he cant stop the love he has for her making things more then a little complicated for Jacori and Reese.
And complicated it was, whew I don't know who got on my nerves the most, Reese or Jacori. They both needed their asses beat. Like really Reese four years girl. Now I get Jacori was pissed he had every right to be, but bro took things to far, he wouldn’t let go but wouldn’t make a decision either and lawd poor Asha. I felt for the the third parties who weren’t getting the truth. Kay Shanee had me rooting for Reese and Jacori one minute then the next minute I wanted to knock some sense into both of them. Jacori was out here slingin’ the D, I mean bro wasn’t above using the D to prove his point. I wont even front the way Jacori was handling Reese sometimes was hot so I get why she gave in. This was my first read by Kay Shanee, I knew when I read factfromfiction review that this was a complicated love story I could get into. I loved how Kay Shanee weaved this complicated storyline into a HEA. And when the title says complicated it’s complicated complicated from the way they knew each other, Reese’s secret from not only Jacori but everyone else, to Jacori current situation whew Chilee. I would have liked to of read about Jacori owning up to the hurt he caused with all his lies but it didn't take away from the story. I will be checking out more of Kay Shane’s work soon.

Not what I was hoping for from Reese and Jay :/
What started off as an interesting plot with two sweet characters quickly turned into disappointment and confusion. I definitely liked the plot of falling for someone who can't have, but the choices these two made didn't sit right with me in the end. While I understood Reese's concern with the judgment of having her "brothers" baby, (marriage doesn't make him her brother) homegirl was dead wrong for waiting so long to tell him! Three years!? And her mom, strained relationship or not, not seeing her own child in three years is beyond crazy. She was foul for making him miss out on so much time and forcing her best friend to lie for her. Showing your child a picture of a man and telling him that he is loved does nothing to justify that missing relationship. That reason alone wasn't enough for forgiveness in my eyes and it looks like they only got together in the end because she was "hurt". 🙄 Jay isn't off the hook either, his slimy a** stayed and straight up LIED to someone he claimed to love and was going to actually marry, had it not been for the accident. They both seemed immature and that unfortunately made me not like either of them by the epilogue. I really wanted to like his character too because he seemed to genuinely love her, even going so far as to cry which was weird, when she resisted him but after finding out his a** tried to get her pregnant on purpose I was done! That's foul on so many levels, especially since that "love" was only formed in a couple of months. Forcing a child on someone who keeps telling you they don't want to be with you is beyond creepy and in no way 'romantic". The characters both needed some growing up to do and although it all worked out I was bummed that their story panned out the way it did. Not for me.

At first I thought I was going to have to return this book. I trudged on with great trepidation, then I found the story interesting. Technically, the couple was not related in any way. Their relationship is considered taboo, but why? I did not like the way he kept stringing the two ladies along, that was really really foul! The attraction was heavy duty... I don’t know how to feel about this one. I was rooting for Jay and Reese in the beginning but he turned into someone that was hard to stomach. I know pain causes people to act out of character but he was very unlikeable. Reese was wrong for her part but she didn’t deserve how she was treated by Jay. I would have liked for there to be more on their journey after the accident. I felt most of their time was conflict and I would have enjoyed the love journey a bit.

Complicated is right! OMG! I enjoyed the build up to the inevitable for Jacori and Reese, but boy were they both stubborn. The back and forth was crazy, but so good at the same time. Loved JJ, with his adorable self. The friendship and sisterhood between Reese and Deja, was beautiful. So glad Jacori got his damn head straight, and got his girl. Another great read. Thank you!

Jacori had me wanting to jump through the book and choke him! The way he tried to have his cake and eat it too made me want him to end up with an empty plate. Asha didn’t deserve his mess. Reese was really a sweetheart but a sucker for him from the start. Jacori really loved her and he was hurting himself by denying himself. I know his homeboys were thoroughly entertained. Great read!

This was complicated
I have a love hate for this book. First off A BABY!!! Whew child I didn’t expect that at all. For Reese mom to not have seen her daughter in 4 whole years WOW! Jacori is so selfish to want his cake and eat it too. I understand why he’s upset but he should be upset for trying to trap Reese. Then to turn out to have a fiancé! I just wanted to pull out my hair. I love it though

Oh Jacori...you silly man..
Mr Jacori apparently thought that keeping two women in limbo was going to end well. I'm glad Reese realized her self worth and finally left him alone. I don't blame Asha for her actions because Jacori was playing with her affections and her health. Smh...it took something tragic to happen for him to realize that he wanted and was willing to be with Reese.

Come On Kay Shanee!!!
I loved Reese and Jacori's love story....so much so I read it twice in one week!!! I love a good boomerang trope. The two people have a soul stirring connection but something they can't or can should they choose to avoid pulls them apart. Time spent away can't put out the fire or make them forget what that person felt like to them! Te entire book I was rooting for these two love birds to find a way to work it out!!!

Loved it, complications and all
This was most definitely complicated love on several levels. I'm glad Jacori finally made the best decision although it shouldn't have even come down to that. Sometimes not even time and distance makes a difference when it's real love. Now can Dejae find love too?

I Was Mad
Jacori pissed me off. How you not tell Reese you have a fiancee. I know Reese was very wrong from not telling Jacori about having his baby. Jacori stringing both women along. Getting mad when Reese starts dating. I am happy Jacori finally admitted and realized Reese is the woman for him. Very good book.

This Author was new to me. I enjoyed the book in the beginning but it started to get repetitive. I love a good sex scenes but this one had so many it caused the book to lag. After a while i just strolled to the end

Girl, wow!
To me, it was a messed up relationship that I didn't think O could read further into it but I'm glad I did. Both women were stupid and of course he was the ultimate dog. Am happy for the ending and it made me year up, lol! Good job! My first read. 😉

Good book
I liked this book and I’m a sucker for a happy ending. Jacori was working my nerves with his flip flopping. Yeah Reese was wrong about her secret that she kept, but to keep punishing her was not cool. I’m glad they got it together and got their HEA.

Great book!
I loved the book but Jacori was foul as hell. The way he kept stringing Asha along while regulating Reese’s life was not right. I would have told his butt off!

This was a great read! I didn’t like Jacori. Well, I liked him and of course I wanted them to get their shit together and you know get together but I DID NOTTT like how he strung Asha along. I mean every time there was a scene where he was talking with his boys, basically telling them that he was going to play both sides for as long as could...I was like:
I mean Asha didn’t deserve that. She was seemingly a good woman. I mean she doesn’t like giving head and thought it was disgusting which I thought was hilarious 😂!!!
So, Miss Kay? Can Asha get a story? Can she please get a happy ending?? Maybe her and Tyson from I’d Rather Be With You 😜😜😜. I mean he was a good guy who got done wrong. She was a good woman who got done wrong... And they both were a little bitter and got petty about it. Maybe two wrongs can make a right 😝!!!

I think reading from this author I have seen almost every relationship dynamic except a polyamorous one. Like I would really ❤️♥️❤️ to read about a successful black polyamorous relationship. Maybe a couple invites someone in their relationship and then they all fall in love 🤔 or maybe a man realizes he wants to be with two women 🤔. Idk my mind just gave me like six storylines 😂. But yeah...

So ugh! This was the most selfish, whack a** male main character I believe i have ever read. Like, I actually didn't want Reese to get with him after all of that because he barely apologized to her. I felt bad for Jacori* up until his fiance was introduced. It was ridiculous that he was just keeping her as a place filler, but expected Reese to not be with anyone else and blatantly kept the fiancé Asha in the dark.. and made her feel like she was in the wrong.
He thought he was going to have both of them. Marrying Asha cuz he "loved" her but knew he wasn't in love was wrong on it's own. Then was going to keep it up with Reese stringing her along bc he couldn't forgive her, but wouldn't let her go?? Egotistical, much?! What's worse is that we come to find out he intentionally impregnated Reese in the first place?! WTH?! And she was mighty foolish to agree to deal with him until he "figured" it out. And he only had a true epiphany bc she almost died?? Jacori talked about trust, but was so HYPOCRITICAL like one of his guy friends mentioned. It almost would have been better if she had gotten back with Malakhi, bc I really did not find myself rooting for Reese and Jacori to make it.
*I just found Kay Shanee's work, and have read almost all of her catalog. I typically like her stories and the characters A LOT, but this is the 3rd story of hers -chronologically the first- where the mother hid the pregnancy from the father. I REALLY dislike that theme. I hope there are no more!
So ugh! This was the most selfish, whack a** male main character I believe i have ever read. Like, I actually didn't want Reese to get with him after all of that because he barely apologized to her. I felt bad for Jacori* up until his fiance was introduced. Didn’t like this one
I am a newer reader but have read most for K Shanee’s books but I did not like this one. For Reese to supposedly be so smart she was very ignorant in this book. I can’t stand a women that plays an idiot for a man. I did not like Jacori at all. He is the type of man women should stay away from. But to let him talk her into playing a side chick in your face is just disgusting. I actually almost stopped reading. Women never want a man like Malakhi who keeps it respectful and treats them right, they would rather fall for someone who wants to play them to the left like Jacori. No true love story here just another man playing with a women’s emotions and a weak woman who doesn’t have a back bone.

Jacori & Reese
Love at first sight. What’s the chances of meeting your “one” at your parents wedding. To find out that you are family by marriage gotta suck when you have such a strong chemistry. Jacori and Reese went on a ride with this one. He was crazy to think that he could actually marry Asha while Reese waited for him. The only thing is that she some decorum about herself and didn’t just settle. Whether jacori was hers or not. She had to heal from him first. But God has the final say. Glad it worked out.

The way I disliked Jay and Reese got on my nerves for settling for his mess but at the end of the day THIS WAS A GOOD READ! If an author takes you through the emotions when reading about a Character, they have done an excellent job in developing that character. Baby did Ms Kay Shanee do an excellent job with these two characters. Because I wanted to fight Jay and I wanted to shake some sense into Reese. I had to remind myself that they were in their early 20s and still figuring life out but these two had me stressed out! A complicated love indeed.

Wow
This book was such a rollercoaster. Jacori’s character worked my nerves. His lies and deceit were very disgusting. At one point I really wanted Malakhi to be the one because it seemed like a better idea. I understand he was angry about what she did but he’s behaviour and going back and forth between the woman and deliberately trying to hurt Reese wasn’t ok. He’s really pigheaded and annoying nevertheless I enjoyed the story

Real love
This is a beautiful story. The first Jacori and Reese saw each other the had an instant attraction. Even after a long separation the love the had for each other never went away. They both tried using other people to help them ignore what they felt it didn't work. I hope Desi will fall in love. She helps Reese tremendously and tried to give her great advice, sometimes. She needs her own stoey.
