First things first: I loved the story but I hate the cover. If this book had a different cover, I would buy it! Anyway, on to the review.

I read this book on Wattpad and as I said above, I love it and I am very fond of the sequel as well (currently reading). The thing or more accurately, the people (characters) are what made me love it so much. I especially liked the character Gentle Rabbit. She is a very loving and motherly character. Besides the main character Kaitlin, Gentle Rabbit was my favorite character.

This book is definitely character driven, at least for me. They could be doing absolutely nothing and I'd probably still read it. The plot is very cliche in fact that I've read other stories (at least 2 come to mind) that have the same kind of plot save for a few scenes. But I'm sure as you've seen my 5 star rating, I don't mind this cliche, I actually enjoy reading it.

I purchased this series off Amazon. The books have a different cover on Amazon then the one that shows up on good reads . I am an avid reader and love reading the historical romance genre. This series is my favorite by far. The character development of all of the characters in the book is so interesting The detailed descriptions of the story makes it easy for your imagination to feel like you’re there. I’m glad it’s not one of those books were the whole entire book is a struggle or bad things happening. You Actually get to enjoy the two main characters fall in love and be able to share their happiness through out the book. I Would give this book more than five stars if I could. I’ve read this book and the second book in the series and I’m anxiously waiting for book 3.

Running away from a predator, a family betrayal that shattered an innocent women leaving her to defend herself. On verge of being raped and violated, a handsome prince shows up to her rescue in this Austen driven historical romance.

First in the series. In 1803, South Dakota, bearing a painful burden, Kaitlin runs away from a leach predator preying on her unspoilt beauty. Saved by a handsome Red Indian, Kaitlin explores a life beyond her ideology and recognizes the true meaning of freedom. Chapman divulge her characters on a journey of love, self-discovery, and hope infused with misunderstanding and sexual moments that establish Kaitlin and Spirit Bear's relationship. Spirit Bear's patience, caring nature is sharply rubbed against his need of respect and wanting of fear as a chieftain. Kaitlin's intelligence and caring nature wins every individual but her unresolved fear drives her to misunderstandings. Chapman's use of easy pace, broken language, cultural shock presented through Kaitlin adds a valuable twist that embarks her readers on a mission never experienced before.

The constant references to frustrating sexual encounters imparts a negative attitude toward the hero. The indecorous mismatched characteristics defiled the true beauty of this light read, and the light reference to the villainous deed committed didn't provide the effective climax need. Chapman awarding a happily ever after to her protagonists is well deservingly presented, toward the end: "Soon, Wastelaka, but not soon enough, you will be mine, ...". Without ever losing focus on Kaitlin and Spirit Bear's relationship, Chapman brought about what it means to win a woman's heart and spirit, cultural diversity, and the beauty of life in this timely read.

A read filled with soul grabbing moments that will tantalize romance in a better light.

Firstly I want to thank the author's representative for honouring me by choosing to review this book. Initially I was not sure how long it will take me to finish this one with my other commitments, but what happened was I read this book even skipping my other chores. The book was that much captivating to me.

A white girl flies away from her family in order to evade from a horrible marriage, and taken as a slave of a Red Indian chief. But it does not continue as a simple master-slave connection, but becomes more deep and beautiful. But things do not go as smoothly as planned, and here I am stopping without giving out spoilers.

It was written in third person view, but viewing the story from different angles, as seen by different characters. So the reader gets to live as every character in the story and feel the story as they do. The author has gone deep into the Red Indian culture and gives out a livid picture of each and every aspect of their lifestyle. Romantic scenes are described with discipline, not going too far towards sexual content. Multiple action scenes are included, and they help the book to achieve its several climaxes.

But the copy that I got definitely needs another round of proof reading, since I found numerous errors such as wrong words, misspelled words, missing words, wrongly used character names, etc. And if you are not very interested in books that describes much background detail, this won't be the book for you.

Having said all above, this is a good book in my eyes, which will be appealing for many readers, including younger ones.

Sheri Chapman – Passions of the Heart Bk 1 – Wild Passion – Reviewed 7/9/21 – Read 6/27-28/21

Moving west was a duty for Kaitlin, it was what her father wanted, being sold for debts was not!

As we know there are numerous reasons that so many families headed west, but in Kaitlin’s case, her father caught the fever of the new life. Along the way, her mother fell ill and was not able to recover, they lost her. Now feeling trapped Kaitlin had nowhere else to go, except to continue with her father and brother. When they arrived in the South Dakota Territory in 1803 it was early summer, hot, and humid. Her father was the first to build their log home outside the walls of the fort because they had not seen any activity from the Indians for quite a while. He thought it would be safe although he had ignored the advice of others. She knew, or at least suspected the real reason! It was an everyday occurrence that they would return home drunk and not even think about bringing food. Or were they even able to hunt? She had been the only one providing food for their meager lives. She had learned to trap small animals and gathered as many plants as possible when they were available, but there were some days it was not enough, there was nothing to eat!

Spirit Bear, the War Chief of the Oglala tribe had been watching the white dogs (wasicus) for many moons now. Other than they did not know how to care for the land, trees, and nature, they did not appear to be a threat to his people. He had also been watching the white woman’s (winyan) actions. She did not know that he had been observing her, as he sat astride his magnificent painted steed with only the strands of his black hair moving in the light breeze. He had never seen anyone that had honey-kissed skin and deeply golden hair that shined like a beacon in the sun, not understanding the feelings that filled him. It angered him that the wasicus were not even protecting this unusual winyan. As he watched she seemed to sense that something was different and began moving back to her home. When she reached the door, she turned, and their eyes met. He was astonished that she did not scream and run wild-eyed away from him but instead stood defiantly. And yet he could see her trembling, but she met his eyes. He did not understand but he was pleased. And the story begins.

Join Kaitlin and Spirit Bear as their lives intertwine, learn how the future changes for Kaitlin…

What did I like? This storyline impressed me very much and I certainly enjoyed it. I thought the style was a little different than other stories that I have read in the past. I guess all women readers like it when the lead character is a strong female, backed up by a strong handsome, and virulent male. You will find that both of them will delight you. The other characters that Sheri has in her cast are unique and entertaining, making everything come together. Furthermore, I was thrilled to find out that this book has been set to be a movie sometime in the future. We do not have enough westerns produced lately.

What will you like? Amazing characters that fill the pages with lots of action, emotions, and excitement. The plight of the storyline will overwhelm you, with some of those feelings when you read more of what happened when the Native Americans were overrun with the white men during the 1800s. Sheri fills the pages with a look from their point of view, what their lives were like, and the emotions that the wasicus could never understand. She shows the differences in beliefs when in reality there is no difference between the two, just words. Most importantly is how they care for their entire village. How the needs of all were taken care of, knowing that this love of the village was shared. Her lead character, Kaitlin, tries to understand their lives and then falls for the handsome man that she comes to love. Unknowingly without understanding the ramifications of what that love will cost her. An excellent read that I will remember for a long time. Sheri also sent me book two, and I am on to that one now, “Passions of the Heart.”

Honestly, I was not a fan. I usually don't mind POV switches, by scene or by chapter, but in this book, they were by a few paragraphs and often even within the same paragraph. It would be in one of the main character's POVs but would jump to a minor character or two for a sentence each and go back to the main. It was very distracting and I am not sure how that ever made it past an editor.

The Lakata, I believe it was, words scattered throughout the English sentences were very distracting and constantly kept breaking me out of the story. I loved the full sentences of Lakata where Kaitlin and the reader didn't understand what was being said because it allowed us to connect with her a little, but random words in the sentences did not work. There is no reason to have to them when the rest of the sentence is in English.

Another thing that kept taking me out of the story was every time Kaitlin referred to her own people as 'white men'. While it made perfect sense to be used by Spirit Bear, think that was his name, it sounded like she was trying to insult her own people every time she used the term.

That being said, the story did have a decent bone structure and when I wasn't being pulled out of the story, I enjoyed the storyline.

This story takes you on a wild, exciting, frisky, and captivating ride, with a romance building between an unlikely pair. Kaitlin, Kaitlin, are you, cre cre girl, what were you thinking, trusting that snake, who had vocally aired, what he intended to do to you. She was such a naive young lady, to think, he was a man of honor, darn it, she was such a softy. A well-crafted tale that engages your attention from start to finish.

I really enjoyed this book. I really wanted to keep reading to find out what happened with these characters. Will Kaitlins civalized mind allow her to accept that she has fallen for this sexy wild man who ignites her own wild passions? Or will she escape to civilization.

Trying to escape an abusive father who has basically sold her off to a brute of a man, Kaitlin runs away, before she is forced into the marriage. She runs straight into the strong arms of the gorgeous warrior Chief of the Oglala. At first Kaitlin believes the attractive warrior has kindly saved her, but quickly realises she has only escaped one prison, to run right into another.

Her beautiful captor forces her to explore her bodies desires for him. To discover the plessure her own body is capable of having with him. However, Kaitlin is devastated to learn that she is in actual fact his slave. While she does have for strong feelings for the powerful attractive male, she is struggling to accept her life with him. Her civilized mind refuses to accept the wild passion her beautiful captor forces upon her, if it is while she is held as his captive.

The relationship between these two is addictive reading. This details throw the reader back in time. While the writing is a little basic, with some grammar and spelling errors, it did not ruin my enjoyment of this.

I received a copy of this book for an honest review. This story is rich with Native American culture which I love reading about. It portrayed the very real life of the Oglala tribe. I adored Spirit Bear. His heart was well displayed as he worked within the constraints if his culture with Kaitlyn. Unfortunately she is the reason I gave it 4 stars. She seemed very naive, weak, and whiny. I don't think any of those traits would help her survive life in the frontier with her dad and brother and less when she was with the tribe. She seemed to be stronger towards the end so maybe this was her coming of age and I didn't pick up on it.
The writing was great and the story moved along well. I think some of the characters development may have been lost due to the amount of factual information included.
Overall, it's a great story and part of a trilogy.

I'm not really one for historical fiction, but this was free, so why not?

Since this book is on Wattpad I didn't have high expectations, so I wasn't disappointed when I didn't like it.
It gets 1 star because of the writing - because it was bad, really bad. Also, I'm not sure I like the portrayal of certain characters, and their personalities (or lack of). Overall, the whole plot was just lacking.

Terrible

The plot was intriguing, but the book was riddled with POV issues, poor editing, and awkward sentence structure. It was extremely disorienting and annoying to continually have the author refer to the heroine as “the captive” or “the golden one” or something else equally as dreadful. I'm sorry to say this book did not entertain and failed to keep me reading from beginning to end.
