As a missionary kid who grew up in Africa, God in Africa captured my heart from the very first page. Through these 90 meditations you will get a peek into Africa, her land, wildlife, people, and varied cultures, but most importantly, you will see that God is indeed in Africa as you experience her majesty, mystery, and beauty He created and continues to work in and through.

Even if you have never visited Africa, these meditations will grab ahold of your heart as Shirley Corder describes what we once called “The Dark Continent” in beautifully vivid color so that we stand back in awe at the masterpieces that point us to Creator God.

At times as I was reading, I could actually see in my mind’s eye the things about which I was reading—an African sunset, a chameleon, the beautiful African people.

The questions at the end challenge you to dig deeper as you consider the work of God in your own life.

I read this book over the course of several days and found it difficult to put down, and I plan to incorporate it in my rotation of daily devotionals/meditations.

NOTE: I received a complimentary copy of this book for reviewing from Shirley Corder. I was not required to provide a positive review. Thoughts in “My Two Cents” are my own opinion.

I live in and love Africa with all my heart. But, I have to thank the author for opening my eyes to learn new things about this amazing continent that I thought I knew. This devotional reading is definitely something that you can dip into again and again. I laughed and nodded my head in agreement while reading about some of the animals or aspects of African life that I can relate to. Written from the author's personal experience, the devotionals contains a scripture, then relates it to a part of Africa's landscape, wildlife, or culture that is relevant; it has a time for reflection, an action point and ends with a short prayer. A lot of research has gone into this labour of love, and it is clear: God is in Africa. If this book is the only way that readers from around the world get to experience Africa, then they are in for the ride of their lives, in the safe hands of a passionate "tour guide" who can be trusted.

The title God in Africa is accurate for this 90 day devotional book written from a first person author perspective. Each chapter or day starts with a bible verse, aspect of African culture which is then related to the Christian life. Each brief chapter has 3 reflective questions, ACTION, and end with PRAY WITH ME. Some chapter titles are: Africa, Ant, Buffalo, Cape Town, Culture Shock, Dark Continent, Giraffe, ... ending with Zebra and Zimbabwe. Chapters are arranged in alphabetical order A to Z. A unique descriptive approach to Africa.

God in Africa by Shirley Corder is an armchair traveler's delight, conjuring up visions of places, plants, and animals that many of us will never see in person.

Her devotional insights help us to see the ordinary in extraordinary ways. It is satisfying and challenging. Are you up to the challenge?

Disclaimer: I was privileged to be a beta reader for this book. And I loved it so much that I purchased a copy as soon as it was available on pre-order.

I admit that I judge the quality of a book by whether or not I want to read it again...and again.
God is definitely IN Africa. This book resonates with the experiences of a child of Africa and will surely intrigue those who aren't, but mostly I see how God walks beside us, guiding our steps, teaching us His ways. In this book, Shirley gives us little vignettes of African life, praises God and asks us to see God in the world around us and know that He is EVERYWHERE. Every time you re-read a chapter, a new thought is released and has to be processed. Definitely worth reading again, and again. May it be a blessing to all who read it

I really enjoyed this book of devotions based on the author's experiences in Africa. Since I have never been to Africa, the scenes and events were new to me and gave me a chance to learn more about this fascinating place. And each short piece made an important spiritual point. I recommend the book for all who are open to new experiences and to God's wisdom as revealed in nature and the circumstances of our lives.
