Good Moms Have Bad Understanding Postpartum Mood Disorders is a battle cry for moms suffering from postpartum mood a spectrum of disorders that affects one in seven postpartum women. This book is intended to arm women and their families with the knowledge they need about what is happening to their minds and bodies during the postpartum period. This book includes information about treatment options, stories from survivors, plus research and movements being conducted across the country to make mental health and maternal mental health a priority.
This book is a great reference and possibly starting point for anyone wanting more information on postpartum mood disorders. While the author mainly writes about postpartum depression. She does touch on other disorders such as anxiety, OCD, panic disorder and postpartum psychosis.
I recently talked with my doctor about postpartum anxiety and while in search of books to read, I found this text. There are not many resources available for these issues and for that reason I rate this 5 stars. The author did a brilliant job educating on the types of disorders, what happens in the brain and body and where to find help. There are also chapters with stories from other women and a chapter for fathers and partners.
It was a fast read and it’s organized in a way you can still benefit even if you only read the chapters that fits your needs.
Great references in this book to help provide support for those struggling with PPD/PPA. It definitely helps reading other people’s experiences to make you feel less alone!
