About the author

Frank Roderus

Frank Roderus wrote his first story—it was a western—when he was five. It was really awful, as might be expected, but his mother kept that typed and spell-checked short story tucked away until the day she died.
Later, Frank became a newspaper reporter, thinking that books are written by authors which he most assuredly was not. He kept trying to write though, and eventually did it wrong enough to learn how to get it right. That first sale, a young adult novel published by Independence Press, was more than thirty years and a good many books ago.
As a journalist, the Colorado Press Association awarded Frank Roderus their highest award, the Sweepstakes Award, for the best news story of 1980, and the Western Writers of America has twice named Frank recipient of their prestigious Spur Award. Frank passed away at age 73 in December 2015.

Wolfe fights back against the FEDCOM soldiers

Jim Wolfe hid in a deep cave when the nukes started falling. First he unloaded a bunch of prepared meals filling the trailer of his 18 wheeler and carried them deep into the cave. A drip of water running down the cave wall provided him sufficient hydration. His flashlights and candles didn't last long leaving him for in the dark until he decided it was clear to leave. He'd been in the dark for more than two years and walking into the light, even a little glow settling into the cave from the distant mouth, was too much for his light-starved eyes. Like fiery sticks poked into his eyeballs, the light drove hot spikes into his brain. Even with his eyes closed, the light through his eyelids was too much. When nightfall arrived he left the cave and found that he could see clearly, just like daylight, from just the starlight to light his path.

If you haven't read any Nightwalker books previously, reading further will expose you to SPOILERS!!!. In that case, I suggest you read them first. Get to know the wonderful characters that grace the pages of Wolfe's stories before you dive into book 5. Go on, read the first four books and meet the amazing friends Wolfe runs into, and you'll know the hatred of the FEDCOMs and the Alston brothers. Who are they? Read the first books!

If you got this far and are still reading, then I trust you've read the first books or you just don't care about SPOILERS. So . . .
Wolfe and Jennifer, along with Buddy - their tag-along half wolf half German Shepherd - making their way to Florida take a break in the clear area at a little town threatening to become a small city. The FEDCOM presence in the town is relatively small and significantly less than the citizens. The town folk would like to be out from under the FEDCOM boot and Wolfe has agreed to help them.

Amazing characters and disgusting bad guys are settled into a storyline with enough twists and turns to keep your attention. The story keeps your attention, the characters grab your heart and soothe your concerns until the bad guys show up and get your heart pumping and muscles jumping as you dash with them into danger. Altogether - this is a great read and a great series! Gotcha some!

Good

Maybe the best in the series after the first book. At least in this one Wolfe got the chance to close a chapter in his life that has been festering for a while and acted pro-active for a change instead of reacting to everything happening around him.

Interestingly good

I find this story is interestingly good in that it shows how people even under the worst of circumstances remain good and how bad people can stay bad or get their shi+ straight.
