Lasy świata. Pomóż zwierzakom wrócić do domów

Rate this book

Książka znakomicie łączy przyjazne dziecku, pełne detali ilustracje, z opowieścią popularnonaukową dostosowaną do potrzeb dzieci w wieku przedszkolnym (a także nieco młodszych i nieco starszych).

Charlie encounters animals that have been illegally smuggled away from their homes, and he determines to help them find their way back to their native forests. The panda goes back to the bamboo forest, the koala prefers a eucalyptus tree, the lemur finds a home in the spiny forest of Madagascar, and the sloth loves the heat of a tropical rainforest. There is even an otter who prefers the kelp forest underwater!

This book includes factoids about all types of forests. It has illustrations showing amazing animals and birds that live in each location. We learn about all the beautiful trees in each type of forest, and how the animals survive harsh climates.

I really liked the illustrations. The art style is soft and cartoony, and all the little animals are so cute! Each scene has dozens of animals and plants in the background, and they are all labeled so you can learn about them.

The pages of this book are thick, but not so thick as a board book. I like that the factoids are presented in little boxes around the page, making it easy to read.

TAKE ME HOME: FORESTS OF THE WORLD is an approachable nonfiction book that teaches about different kinds of forests, from kelp forests to rainforests to deciduous forests. The book is an interesting combination of fiction and nonfiction, beginning with a story of a boy named Charlie finding a bunch of animals after a smuggler's truck crashes. He then takes them home to their forests, learning about them along the way.

What I loved: The format of the book is great for children who love stories and learning. The overarching fictional story walks children into each place, where they can read cool facts and learn about different forest types and the animals who live there. The cartoonish animals add to the fun of the story that manages to pack a lot of information with a simple story line and adorable characters. The breadth of forests and facts is great as a starting place for learning more.

There are a lot of great educational points in the book. As an example, in the deciduous forest, it not only gives facts about animals and plants within, but also talks about seasons. In the rainforest, it also discusses rainforest layers alongside bugs, animals, and plants.

The text is easy to read throughout and doesn't take away from the full page detailed illustrations, managing to be relatively small and very readable. All the animals are labeled when pictured, which is really helpful for children who want to learn about everything.

Final verdict: Educational, approachable, and full of adorable characters, TAKE ME HOME: FORESTS OF THE WORLD is perfect for elementary school aged readers who love learning, fun facts, and animals.

Please note that I received a review copy. All opinions are my own.

When a van wrecks right in front of him, Charlie must help the animals that spill out of its contents get back to their original homes. After all, if he doesn't, they may die or become ill right where they are. Or the smuggler who captured them for profit is sure to kidnap them again. Charlie does the right thing and manages to return all the animals to one of seven different types of forests: European mixed forests, bamboo forests in China, eucalypt forests in Australia, Canada's boreal forest, Madagascar's spiny forest, spiny forests near California, and Costa Rica's tropical rainforest. As Charlie and the animals look for the right match for each one, readers will move through various pages with tidbits of information about each habitat, including its characteristics and plant life. There are labels for various flora and fauna on each page, giving readers a taste of the terrain. And after everything is sorted out, those animals are identified on the last two pages in post card size boxes with information provided about each one. The book is user-friendly, and while the framing of a boy coming to their rescue isn't necessary since the illustrations and text are engaging on their own, it is likely to draw in more readers who might otherwise skip the book.

This book was received as an ARC from Albatros Media in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

This book was educational and beyond adorable. I love books where it is a topic such as the rainforest and you only have little to no knowledge on the rainforests and then open a book and learn so much than ever before. I am so excited that our young students will be enriched in so much knowledge and that these books are such a treasure. They should be in every elementary school classroom and library and I know they will definitely be available at our library for any projects or just reading for fun.

We will consider adding this title to our J Non-Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
