In the sleepy village of Etwell, an innocent young boy has been abducted and brutally murdered. As it emerges that there may be more young victims concealed in the ancient graveyard, the local vicar, former army padre Daniel Carter, is drawn into the mystery, and he begins an affair with an attractive young reporter who has a personal interest in the case. As the police uncover evidence that the scale of the crime may be bigger than anyone had imagined, the trail begins to lead to a suspected circle of paedophiles from the most powerful levels of society...
I had the privilege of meeting Austin in person when he and his partner came to stay at my husbands pub. We got chatting and I mentioned my love of books and he informed me he was an author although he didn't say much else about it. He did however over the course of a 2 day stay, talk to me about so many wonderful things and recalled many stories from him and his partners most interesting life!
In his earlier life, Austin was an officer in the MET for 20+ years, working across various roles including child protection, crime quads, riot training and murder squads. Whilst he will never betray the trust of the people he has helped, he talks of his time in the force and the things he has witnessed and the people he has helped are both a harrowing and beautiful tale all at the same time.
I quietly went on Amazon and purchased Austin's book "The Perversion of Justice" whilst he was staying and finished most of it in 1 sitting. From the minute it started I was gripped. An absolute page turner from start to finish looking at Crime, Corruption and Redemption. On Austin's second day I told him I had purchased his book, loved it and that I had so many questions pf which he promptly answered, elaborating more on stories and cases that influenced his writing and the people behind some of his characters!
From corruption and cover up in the church, the government and various other organisations alongside uncovering a paedophile ring abusing young boys to showing the friendships and relationships amongst colleagues and the solidarity of people with a common belief in justice.
I honestly cannot rave about both the book and Austin enough!
A genuine down to earth wonderful example of a human being who has so much to share with the world, and a gripping read with realistic characters and speedy yet in depth plot development.
If you love a good crime book, this is for you!!!
This book would make an exceptional TV Series!!
Trigger Warning: some graphic descriptions and depictions of sexual exploitation and murder.
A fascinating insight into an investigation around a horrendous series of crimes. The author writes convincingly, the characters are well rounded and believable and the pace of the story is such that you want to keep going to see how things turn out.
