If you’re researching the Anaconda company, the book contains tons of facts. But those facts are offset by the self-congratulating style in which the bulk of the book is written. It’s like the vintage ads you see on old magazines or newspapers, which have more text than imagery, and continually use phrases like “greatest” and “best,” but in much more flowery prose. It also shows the era of the writer’s upbringing, using phrases like “went in for” all over the place. You can almost see him standing erect, clutching his coat with one hand and twirling his mustache with the other.
