This is an interracial, paranormal romance with drama and lots of confusion.
This book needs serious editing as it is full of errors of all types: grammatical errors, missing endings of words, unnecessary endings, wrong word usage, missing verbs, incorrect verb usage, incomplete sentences, missing words, etc. There are many errors but they are easily corrected by a good editor. As this is an Arc, perhaps they'll be corrected in the final version.
Not so easily corrected is the confused storyline and characters: alpha wolves with unknown power, witches of darkness and witches of light, Fairy Godfather and Godmother, something called the Entity and a Host, etc. Lucius was the alpha wolf and hero and Ruby was heroine but we didn't know what she was. Lucius didn't know what Ruby was except she was his mate. Ruby didn't believe there was a mate for her because she was different and could only mate with her own kind of which there were none. Ruby's cousin, Scarlotta was crazy and power hungry and had something going on with the Entity which was dark and evil. Ruby's grandmother, Cherise Ryderhood (Granny Ryderhood) was a witch of the Light. She was trying to find a cure for the darkness in Scarlotta.
How was Scarlotta Granny Ryderhood's granddaughter and what was she? What was Ruby and why didn't she know what she was and how powerful she could be? Why did Lucius, who had the power of the Alpha wolf, keep getting caught and chained with a good chain that drained him of his power? Why did Granny Ryderhood keep getting trapped by Scarlotta"a spells? Who was the Entity and who was the Host? Who? How? Why? What? The storyline was confusing and some things were never made clear.
There was good backstory on Lucius but little was known on the other characters. The sex between Lucius and Ruby was supposed to be erotic but it added nothing to their story. there was too much profanity when speaking of sexual body parts. Taking the Lord's name in vain even one time is too much and it happened fairly often in this book. How could lucius and Ruby not be mated as often as they had sex? There needed to be more backstory on Ruby.
The first 25% of the book was a mess of confusion. The next 50% was more interesting but still confusing. The ending was rushed and most still made no sense. This could have been a much better book with a little more clarity in backstory and history of the different paranormals in the book.
I received this book as an Arc for an honest review. You have an honest review, maybe a confusing one, but an honest one. Yes, Lucius and Ruby had a HEA - just don't ask me how!
