A piece of string 🧵 is a wonderful thing

By: Judy Hindley / Margaret Chamberlain

⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

This book was rescued from a street library.

This book was interesting in every aspect, from going back to caveman learning how to start making string to the years we have now.

It's a very educational type of book, yet I didn't like how some of the words of the story was all over the place but otherwise was a very good read.

The illustrations were very creative and there were some funny ones too.

Plot summary: A Piece of String is a Wonderful Thing is an informational book about the history of string. While it doesn’t sound very interesting, it is. This book shows how cavemen used string (made from various things) and throughout history how string has evolved along with man. I never knew there were so many uses for string!

Activities:
#1 The book talks about historic uses for string. Why not let students try to figure out new uses for string?
They could write journal entries after listening or reading this book. Give them pieces of string for inspiration.
#2 Make a game of dividing the class into groups and seeing which group can remember the most uses of string written about in the book. I bet it would be fun!
