It’s a fun, hands-on approach to coding that teaches the basics of using the HTML and CSS programming languages (the language of web pages). You write the code in the pages of your workbook and then draw what it would look like in a web browser.

Sam Taylor is a Technical Curriculum Developer, former teacher and current education advocate, who taught herself to build websites four years ago. She drew on her experience with STEM - through both designing classroom curriculum and building websites - to start a blog where she posted simple HTML and CSS tutorials, which blossomed into The Coding Workbook. Sam lives in the Bay Area with her partner and their plants.
This book was so helpful for my teenage daughter as she was teaching herself HTML/CSS. It really helped ground the principles and tricky parts of both for her in ways that were approachable and concrete. Heavily recommend for anyone trying to learn.
Hey, everyone - Sam here! The book you see before you is the combination of my two passions - making education accessible and coding! Learners from any background can pick up The Coding Workbook, grab a pencil, and get taken step-by-step through the process of writing the code for a simple website. The Coding Workbook has been a passion project of mine for years, and even if just one person can use it to learn to code, I’ll consider it a success!
I’ve never even attempted to code before this book and now I can say I can successfully build a website! It is written in such a way that makes coding accessible and digestible for all. Would absolutely recommend for anyone of any age wanting to learn to code.
