In the year 2036, Earth faces a natural disaster that alters modern society. The world is thrown into chaos and becomes devoid of the most advanced technology. The United States, China, Russia, and other superpowers are quickly reduced in strength and prominence.
The survivors are determined not to repeat the mistakes of their ancestors as they methodically rebuild society from the ground up. A New World Government is created and runs the planet; it has outlawed the existence of sovereign countries and all acts of war.
As the global community enjoys world peace for the first time in Earth's history, humans are suddenly contacted by an extraterrestrial race of beings called the Tresantarians. The alien species is mysteriously connected to the people of Earth and immediately offers humanity a fantastic gift. But there's a catch, and the people of Earth are about to uncover a mind-bending secret about the extraterrestrials that will forever change the way humans view life, the Tresantarians, and most importantly themselves.

I liked the book. It's a fascinating plot that was well thought out and the story-line deals with some issues we are contending with today. This is a good read and it gets better as you move through the book. I am giving it a 4.5 out of five stars and will round it up to a 5.

A meteorite strikes the Earth and kills 75% of its inhabitants. The survivors subsist with basic electronics and slowly rebuild their capabilities. Just as they regain the sophisticated society they had list, aliens contact them. But, not your ordinary kind of aliens.
No doubt the plot is interesting. But the author also does a great job of writing, including character development and surprising plot twists. I read this short novella in about two hours, but two hours filled with tension and expectation.
John Reizer reworked an original short story into this novella, and I’m glad he did. He took me out of today’s COVID-19 worries. Kudos to a great writer.
A Good Science Fiction Story with A Heck of A Twist
John Reizer's, The Homecoming is a very unique science fiction novella that was hard for me to put down. This is the second story I have read by this author. Although short, approximately 150 pages, this tale grabbed me from the beginning and quite honestly, kept me guessing how everything would turn out until the final page of the book. I'm not giving away any spoilers, you'll have to read it to find out what happens. I really enjoyed the story and would definitely recommend it to others.

The Homecoming is a story about post-apocalyptic earth and how the people of the world rebuild society. There's finally peace on earth when an alien race called the Tresantarians arrive and give humans an amazing gift. The aliens also offer humans a chance to study on their planet, Tresantaras for five years. It's a good plot and the ending is very well done. It reminds me of the twist in the movie, The Village. Nicely done.
Full disclosure: I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
I want to start off by saying that I received a digital copy of this book after winning a GoodReads giveaway. I don't think I would have paid money for it otherwise. There's a lot to take in reading this book. And I don't mean content wises. Content wise, it's pretty neat little story. Probably the first alien story that doesn't lead to massive war between two planets.
That said, the way it's executed and written is complete let down. The premise is the only reason I charitably gave the book an extra star. The writing is choppy; it reads like a paraphrased retelling of a much better book. Or worst, a rough draft.
The novel's twist was presented with lackluster. Although, I will say that despite being right, my assumption wasn't 100% correct. Kudos on that, John.
I'm uncertain if I'll read anything by John Reizer again. I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume this isn't his best work.

The Homecoming is a short read and I enjoyed it. I like that the author took a unique approach to the alien-human experience in that it's not the typical "we're going to take over your planet and make you our slaves" plot that's been overdone in my opinion. I thought I had the ending figured out early on, but I was wrong. Nice twist there to finish everything up. I didn't see that coming.
From the very beginning I was thinking of The Outer Limits or The Twilight Zone but this was a bit different. A good book even with the idea of a one world government and lottery winning not being new ideas. In a 'blink' of an eye I realized who they were. I was still surprised by the end of the story. I will surely read more from this author.
This is an easily read short story that is more like literary fiction than other novellas I've read. While I found the ending predictable, it did not take away from the enjoyment.
