Traces the history of movies dealing with kungfu, samurai swordsmen, and ninja warriors and discusses the careers of performers such as Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, and Jackie Chan
Author of more than 70 novels and nonfiction books (under a variety of names, including multiple variations of his own); writer of hundreds of magazine articles, reviews, and DVD blurbs; screenwriter for selected comic books, television, films, and documentaries; consultant at several studios and networks; performer at Medieval Times and the North Pole; teacher of kung fu at universities and seminars around the world.
The gleeful overuse of the word 'orientals' in this book is one thing but it belies the fact that the writers have bundled up Chinese and Japanese cinema together in a way that doesn't really work. The chapter on chambara feels so undercooked because it was shoehorned into a book that the writers really wanted to make about Chinese martial arts film.
A great read. It's pretty dated in both language and content, but the information is thorough and interesting. I would love to see an updated version released.
