This introductory guide surveys the work of a range of influential contemporary social theorists including Lacan, Baudrillard, Foucault, Said, Harvey and Haug and explains their analyses of current topics such as consumer identity and commodity aesthetics; post-colonial criticism; identity and narrative; and the general condition of postmodernity.
The author observes identity from various angles, introducing theorists such as Foucault, Baudrillard, Freud, Fanon, and Bhabha. The topics range from narrative, difference, unconscious, ethnicity, nationality to postmodernity. The good thing is, the book is comprehensive and plainly written. But I was distracted by his frequently-put questions and bits of life story (I assume, of his) at the end of each chapter.
