You will love Harbour City. Most visitors to the island drive right through, without taking time to explore its attractions. But you’re not most visitors. You will get to spend some time. Go head. Turn on your radio. That’s BC Bud, 101.3 FM on your Home and Native Band. He will announce your special arrival. And if you catch something more than a salmon, you could be referred to Doctor Sababa, an Internal Medicine consultant at Harbour City Regional, the Sage of the Salish Sea. He would amuse you with his wit and wisdom, and the spontaneous combustion and thrust they generate, often mixed in unequal proportions, as he dances with the devil in the pale moonlight. Before there was artificial intelligence, he was the real thing, working in the mysterious old ways of a masterless samurai. In the myriad motions of all celestial objects, he was a meteor. With proper care, you might even survive your encounter. Welcome to the spring and summer of his Casebook. Welcome to Sababaland.

Dr. Sababa, the stocky savant shows us the complexities of out of the box thinking that a modern day internist must use in today's world. For me, I really enjoyed seeing if I could solve any medical mysteries presented before Dr. Sababa revealed his diagnosis. If you're up for a challenging read, then read on and see if you can keep up with Dr. Sababa's quick wit and mind!!
Well written supposedly fictional account of a brilliant doctor of internal medicine set mainly in the Emergency and ICU of the Nanaimo hospital. Much of the medical jargon was over my head, but none the less- educational (thanks to google) and lending authenticity to the dozen cases of this savant. The author weaves humor and life stories of himself, peers and his patients into it, giving the book a delightful lightness and reality. Looking forward to book 2 ....and the TV series?
Very entertaining read with a well balanced combination of in-depth medical case studies, medical history, humour and insights into the machinations and personalities involved in a major regional general hospital. Many great spots of humour, usually involving the skewering of the managerial hubris, from local players to the "big-wigs and suits" from the Health Authority. Nice to see them hoist on their own petard. Looking forward to the Second Case Book of Doctor Sababa.
This review concerns the reading of all three books. I throughly enjoyed these books. They were very witty and engaging. For the intern doctors they are heroes in my eyes especially Dr sababa a must read in my opinion whether medically inclined or not. Death Adder.
Fascinating read . Well written stories, great humour and interesting diagnosis of Harbour City Medical center. The stories of pushing uphill against the flow, to bring great medicine to deserving patients..
