Sometimes the courage to change the things we can normally come at the most unexpected times, in the most unexpected form, and with the most unexpected people. For Ralph Nader it came in his fight against corporate misconduct by officials of General Motors in his book 'Unsafe at any Speed'. He championed a crusade to bring corporations under the Rule of Law. It is not suprisring for corporations all over the world to act with impunity. They end up violating every citizen's right in the book. The same goes to diplomats who act under tge umbrella of diplomatic immunity. The same goes to UN personalities who act under the same umbrella.

It take the courage of David to fight the wrath and injustice of the Goliath's of our times. The former comes in the form of Ralph Nader while the latter in the form of corporations such as General Motors. It takes a lot of self will to stand up against such powerful personalities when they threaten the lives of the citizens of this world. After we have done our part we live the verdict to the relevant institutions to bring the powers that be to book.

When Ralph Nader waged a war against General Motors for the unsafe design of some of their vehicles, the Covairs, he was met with stoff opposition from the officials of the company. They employed all the tactics they could find in the book of impunity by employing a barrage of powerful law firms who, acting on the promise of great rewards, would do anything to discredit the man who had the best intrests of his countrymen with him in his heart.

Hiding under the cover of preemployment investigations, the company set up a sting to discredit Mr. Nader and intimidate him from testifying. In a senate sub-committee. By investigating Mr. Nader's background they were going against the federal laws of America. Mr. Nader was a witness and their conduct could be attributed to witness interference. Investigations into Nader's sexual proclivities, political affiliation, and general background went beyond what they termed routine investigations and amounted to harrasment of a citizen of the United States of America.

Despite public outrage on its actions, the corporation went on with its activities without any sanctions from the FBI. Even after the damning expose by Mr. Gillene that his actions were authorised by the company the FBI was unable to find 'sufficient evidence' to bring a case against them. That shows just how powerful these organisations are and how fragile human life is.
