The Unseen War #3

War of Wings

Rate this book
Jen Johnson loves to read about supernatural creatures. She's always dreamed of climbing into the pages of her books to become a vampire or werewolf. Imagine her surprise when she spontaneously turns into a flying dragon. It's a dream come true, right? Alexander, leader of all of the Fae-actually, they prefer Dannan, thank you-and his cousin Roan try to help her acclimate to her new life, but it isn't until she meets Doryu, a gorgeous Dragon shifter that things start to get interesting. And what is going on in the town? Some of those people aren't what they seem. If Jen sticks her nose where it doesn't belong, maybe she'll get some answers the Unseen world needs. And maybe her nosiness will only get her heart broken.

Jen's life had recently hit a rough patch; no job, behind on her bills, and dumped by her boyfriend. Not exactly the fantasy life found in her books until it was. One moment of panic and she finds herself covered in scales and with wings! Cool, right? Except she has no idea what is going on. With the help of a handsome stranger and a quick-thinking cover story Jen soon finds her wings put away and is on her way home with more questions than answers. The stranger, Roan soon shows up at her apartment with another man, Alexander to take Jen into custody and open her eyes to a world that she had only fantasized about before. Jen is a recently activated Sárkány shifter, the men are Dannan or what we know as fae. Every fantasy creature Jen has ever read about is real and she's now part of the world of the unseen. She's thrilled but she wants a more active role. Unfortunately, an accidentally overheard conversation could put her into the middle of major treachery.

Dannan is the third book of the Unseen series but the first of this storyline. It's connected in multiple ways with the first two books and a continuation of the Sárkány story with minor contributions from the original characters but the focus is on a new cast and new story. Jen is the main female. Her acceptance into the world of the Unseen, her new reality is admirable. I wish that she didn't focus on her size so much. It detracts from her overall appeal for me. Roan is a lovely man although we didn't get to spend much time with him. I have mixed feelings about Alexander. He's a bit cold and clinical. He made me cringe repeatedly. I can't imagine being attracted emotionally to a man who speaks the way he does. Doryu came across as the best match. Their connection, ease of conversation, and the fun they seem to have together worked well. The other two are kind, successful, and attractive but there didn't seem to be the emotional relationship I need. Sexual attraction is not enough. I'm going to need some actual romance involved in this courting! Jen is equally to blame. She doesn't seem interested in a true relationship/partnership outside of sex as a distraction. I don't know what she's waiting for. She's not in her teens. If she isn't interested in anything permanent period, I am fine with that. That doesn't seem to be the case though, it's more 'not yet'. Now that she has an extended life-span this works but since she didn't know about this until recently, it just seems odd. Her human mindset would not change overnight or even months. Her actions with dating and her parents seem more like a teenager, not a 36-year-old woman.

The story is very promising. I love the concept of the school and can't wait to see how the new threat is handled. This concept is where the book really thrived in my view and I look forward to more.

In the third book of The Unseen series, we are getting some new characters.
However, this story does play off of the first two and you will see the connection.

Dannan are what we usually consider "fae."

We have Jen who is our main female character.
A woman who loves everything supernatural and paranormal.
Always dreaming she could be sucked into the pages of her books.
Imagine her surprise when a fall that should have killed her, or at the very least significantly injured her, she turns into a dragon!

In walks the handsome stranger, who covers for Jen, and soon helps her in other way.
After bringing Alexander to her, they take Jen away to help her acclimate to her new world.
A recently activated shifter and all that brings with it.

There are some aspects of the book that deter you a bit, at least for me.
The characters are fantastic.
However, I dislike how Jen focuses on her weight a bit much.
It detracts from her overall appeal.

Roan is the stranger who helps Jen at the courthouse and introduces her to Alexander.
We don't see much of him, but he does play an important role.

Alexander is your typical cold and clinical type man.
He has several cringe worthy moments, but Jen likes him.

Finally we have Doryu.
He is my favorite.
They have a connection, can talk easily to one another, and just seem to be compatible.

I had a hard time getting into the story in the beginning.
Eventually it picked up, and I enjoyed it.
It is a promising story and I like the concept behind the series.

I would recommend it.

I was fortunate enough to get an ARC copy of this book. I have to say that the author did an amazing job at introducing new characters to the story. Disclaimer! If you have NOT read books 1-2 you are A.) missing out on a great read and B.) you'll be lost and the story won't make sense. Book 3 gives you a much broader understanding of the supernatural community and how it's ran. You're introduced to Jen a normal "human" who is just trying to make it in the world until she falls down some stairs and finds herself involved with the supernatural. "Down the rabbit hole" as they say but in this case the rabbit hole is the place you fit in best. She handles all these new and surprising changes in her life with a grace that most of us can't muster in our normal lives. Throughout the story the world building just continues where Riley and her men left off. I really appreciate that this book gives you the chance to fall in love all over again with new characters but then stay true to your first loves. You don't lose those characters that you've come to love in the first 2 books but they are not the stars in this book. If you are looking for a book that will give you a different prospective on the supernatural world and the challenges they have to overcome with some hot romance thrown in that will NOT disappoint then this is the book for you. I'm looking forward to book 4!

Awesome

This storyline follows Jen as she is introduced to the world of the unseen. I loved her introduction and human qualities wile trying to fit in with an entirely new world. With the aid of her men I do believe she will be successful. Here we are getting a glimpse of Jen becoming a strong woman and I sincerely hope that continues in the next book. I enjoyed that we still got to see beloved characters from the past two books. Overall I enjoyed this read and dang the cliffhanger has me holding on anxiously for the next book!

Really interesting

Love the concept. I wasn’t a fan of the fact that after a couple of books we switched from Riley’s viewpoint to her cousin’s as well as the fact it almost seems like a formula with the two of one race and one of the other in the harem. I also feel like we didn’t get to know the characters as well as I would’ve liked. Being from Seymour, TN, it was neat having some of the East TN cities mentioned, and I enjoyed the way she was introduced into the unseen world. Looking forward to finding out what happens in the next book.

Sorry no spoilers of any kind because I’m not the type that does that.
So this is all I’m going to say about this book and that is I thought it was good.
I had problems getting into the story it seem to take me forever to get interested.
Which that surprised me since the first two books in this series pulled me in right off the bat but not this book.
Don’t get me wrong the story was good but it didn’t grab me like the others did.
But yes I recommend it because I guarantee this book will speak more loudly to another than it did me.

War of Wings is book three of The Unseen series and in this book we get Jen's, Riley's cousin, story. Just like book one and two this is a great, unique storyline with likable characters. Jen has always dreamed about becoming one of the supernatural creatures that she reads about. When it happens and she becomes a flying dragon it takes her by surprise. This is an entertaining story and after that cliffhanger I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

This book is all about Riley's cousin Jen. When Riley crossed over it seems to have brought out the dormant genes in other Sarkany. Jen finds out by accident what she is and is anxious to help and find others like her. I liked this book alot and found myself not wanting it to end. I enjoyed all the characters and the story. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Omg another great book by L.A. Boruff. New characters but we still also get to hear about her characters from book one and two. A lot of twists in this book but I definitely loved it. I can't wait to read more.
