Azar Nazemi is a firefighter with an ancient secret; she is Ifrit. A race of Djinn, or Genies as they are known to Westerners, the Ifrit can read a fire and mold it to their will. That makes her job a whole lot easier.
When her crew attends a series of deadly arsons that appear to have been lit by one of her kind, Azar knows it is up to her to track down the rogue Ifrit and stop him before he kills more people. There's only one problem; she's spent a lifetime avoiding other Djinn and ensuring that the Djinn Ruling Council does not know of her existence. A cold and brutal regime, the Djinn Council want to conscript her into slavery for one hundred years.
As she pursues the Rogue, Azar will break the rules of secrecy that surround her world and enlist the help of human Arson Detective, Keenan Reilly. A chauvinist to the core, Detective Reilly has always rubbed Azar up the wrong way, mostly because she'd like him to rub her up the right way, despite her better judgment. But if she is to save her friends and the millions of people who call New York City home, then she is going to have to make a few sacrifices and bend a few rules.
The Azar Trilogy is now complete Book One: Smoke and Smolder Book Two: Burn and Blaze Book Three: Rage and Ruin
When I was nine, my grandmother and her friends used to read and swap Harlequin Mills and Boons novels. When I was busted reading one, they started sneaking me boxes full of strong heroines and rugged men. Thus started a long love affair with the romance genre. Then I discovered urban fantasy, and fell in love with broody Alphas and sexy paranormals, and combining them together was a no brainer. Then I discovered Reverse Harem.... Oh my. Why choose, am I right?
Where to start?... First thing to know - this series is a slowwwww burn! It is a fantastic story filled with love, action, bravery and the will to be better than what you were born with.
What starts out as lust filled crazy couch sexy burn with NYPDs Keenan Reilly (whom sadly she doesn’t end up with at all) in book 1 turns to a love story that sets your soul on fire 🔥 in book 2 and turns into a Happily Ending after with 4 different handsome hunks!
The story of AZAR is literally unlike anything I have read before. It was a story of a Djinn who hid herself from the world because it was all she’s ever known. She’s thrust into a paranormal world when her job is at risk, meeting the most unlikely friends. Family is met. Friends for life are made. Relationships and fated feelings fly. AZAR becomes everyone’s last hope essentially while her outside the box thinking takes everyone to a new level. Fae are not what they seem and every book has a different foe and yet the same.
This was definitely a different story than I was expecting from this author but I absolutely loved the story and thought that went into this.
*Overall 4.5/5 *Heat? 3/5 what parts are their are 🔥🔥 but you are left with wanting so much more than your given *3rd Person POV - which I’m not really a fan of, but the author did portray it in a way to still feel like you were their watching the characters. All conversations were done in 1st person. *Slow Burn. *HEA? Yes!
I like Azar. I like the idea of a firefighting djinn and the way the djinn society interplays. I like the concept of a malevolent djinn trying to do good. The story is really interesting. However. . . If you are looking for a RH type story, this one leaves a lot to be desired. Azar is very monogamous through 85% of the book. It's not even slow burn so much as it's conflicted emotions that somehow turned into a group at the end. Honestly, it felt a little uncomfortable in the way the chemistry was developed in a start/stop way. There is so much potential in these characters for a really strong RH plotline but it doesn't quite work the way it is right now. 3.5 ⭐
I loved the characters and the different species\races. There are I think six brands of Djinn, weres, trolls and fae. Many half breeds or Inter species. Lots of action and the world building was good. Azar has several love interests by the end and there is some steam with Bast. It's slow burn.. ok never burn with three of them. That's my only complaint. Throughout three whole books we fall in love with Donovan, Oliver, and Jack but there is not one single smexy scene with Any of them! I kept waiting and besides one small incident with Donovan we get nothing.. I really wanted to play with his dragon!! I mean we know it's there but we only get a little peek. Oliver is so handsy that it feels like at any time clothes would start flying.. It alludes to three ways but we never actually get to watch with any of them. And we really did kick Keenan to the curb.. I thought he'd reappear at some point.
One of my favorite things is that there are so many side characters that all have their own distinct personalities. It's rare to come to care much for anyone besides your MCs but this series has a lot of really special people. I would love for Grace to build out from this and let some of them have their own stories.
I have read most of Grace McGinty's books but missed this series somehow. Azar turned up in Rebels and Runaways and I wanted to know her story.
This is a good read. There is lots of action but it doesn't get in the way of getting to know the characters. There is a large cast but the important characters are fully developed. It is hard to list the things I liked about this series without giving away the story but it includes strong relationships (romantic and platonic), courage, sacrifice, the questioning of tradition for tradition's sake and characters keeping their word rather than betraying others for an easier life. That all sounds rather heavy but I smiled and laughed throughout the series and the epilogue is full of hope.
I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. I'm glad I read the omnibus as the endings of the original individual books would have driven me mad... Even with the series being completed. It doesn't feel like this has to be the end of the stories about Azar and her family. The cameo in the Eden Academy series was good but what has happened to them all in-between and will happen next? Inquiring minds need to know!
This is the author grace’s second series as far as I’m aware. Her first series I didn’t care for, and I cared for this more but not as much as the other books and series. This is more of an RH adjacent than it is a true reverse harem, she’s pretty much monogamous in the first book and the second book and most of the third and you don’t actually get any smut scenes when they decide to all get together. What it seems like to me between her first series, and this one it laid the foundation for her later works in series like dark river and then the manic series. I feel like she worked all the kinks out in this one. I truly love the female male character and the main male characters. It’s more of how she set up the story, the information, and the way the harem got together and how long it took. Also, to be honest, the ending of the series was lacking. I feel like it needed another book. Everything was too rushed, and felt cobbled together and thrown together I needed more.
First, I have liked most of the books by this author. This trilogy not so much. The romance part of it is superficial and almost nonexistent and the “reverse harem” is more like a shaky verbal agreement in the last 5 or 10% of the trilogy. Throw in the weird cheating which results in a ridiculous number of step kids and it was a real battle for me to trudge through to the end of these. If these were the first books I stumbled across from this author I wouldn’t have read any more, and likely wouldn’t have finished the first in this set, but luckily, I read most of her other books first. I only read these because the characters cross over into other series so I thought it might be pertinent. It isn’t. If you have read the other books by this author and are looking for another really good RH, this trilogy will probably be a disappointment.
The FMC in this book is badass, funny and loving. All these traits make a great heroine in this Adventurous tale. The story kept you on the edge of your seat and I had trouble putting it down. All my favourite fantasy characters have a story within the story and even with all the violence and bloodshed it is an epic love story. Thanks Grace for Azar and her men.
Brilliant read. Great Boxset. Loved these books Azar is hiding in plain sight as the only female and Ifrit firefighter. but that is not all that she is hiding. as a Djinn there are certain rules and reponsibilities she must hold and well, she's been a bit neglectful, but time is catching up with her and she is now more involved with her Djinn side than ever before, can she leave the human world behind her or wills she drag the humans with her. brilliant read. cant wait for the next.
I have read quite a few Grace McGinty books and have enjoyed every single one. McGinty has the ability to draw a reader in with humour, emotion and a genuine ability to write relatable heroes and heroines. I cried right along with Azar, I laughed at her dry wit, and she became so real to me that I was fully invested in her happiness.
Having all three books of the series in one shot was just a bonus!
I’ve been on a mission to read every Grace McGinty book she has! This was by far my set of books so far! It was steamy but not raunchy, funny but also kept you on your toes. This story took twists and turns I didn’t expect and it played out beautifully.
Slow burn...sure it is. If you consider sex in the first chapter slow burn. But that aside all these characters are well developed and fun and flirty. Prepair for laughter and tons of eye rolling. Ps. Oliver is mine.
Ms McGinty gives us a thrilling paranormal, reverse harem adventure. The trilogy is filled with intrigue, exciting action, steamy romance and wonderful touches of humor. The storytelling is excellent. I highly recommend this series.
Azar and her crew face seemingly insurmountable obstacles as Azar traverses the supernatural world she'd avoided most of her long life. Hilarious and sad and entertaining on so many levels!!
What a wonderful adventure for FMC Azar of the Irift. Twists and turns, heartbreak and absolute elation the emotional turmoil is just as intriguing as the story itself. Fantastic read, well worth it!
Love this story. So reflective of life today. Celebrate differences, not hate them. No, you can't like everyone but when the call arises for unity, everyone should come together for the greater good.
Really good writing and fairly good story but rh relationships and romance was an afterthought overall. It was barely rh and felt unresolved to a disappointing degree. There was more time spent on a romantic relationship that failed than on her rh.
Great world building with Djinn, shifters, fae and demigods. Mystery, political wrangling, old feuds, and new alliances round out the plot. I was sucked in immediately and hated to finish.
I really enjoy this series. I started reading these series out of order. And now a few things make more sense. I miss the smut. But u think this was a sweet story. I enjoyed the characters, and the story line on thIs world the author had created. :)
Azar is an amazing heroine with little to make her need to be a hero in the beginning but throw in a murderer, feral fea, and some hunky men and suddenly the world can't live without her.
One of the best stories I’ve read recently! The best part? There is sex, but the values are there. The lines between good evil and balance. Off scene reverse harem that takes all three books to get to. I don’t want to let go of this world.
I really enjoy this trilogy. It is a little different then most RH in that the romance/relationships are more of a side note. While it plays an important role it is not the center of the story.
