I happened to come across the "少女撿骨師系列" through VOFAN artwork. Once I discovered the title, I spared no effort to track it down and read it. I must say, I was quite pleasantly surprised by how excellent it is, far exceeding my initial expectations. The author has crafted a thoroughly engaging cast of characters, filled with witty and humorous interactions, all while weaving a central, mysterious question that spans the entire narrative. Furthermore, the conclusion is genuinely captivating and stands out from standard novels once all the mysteries are finally brought to light.
However, my main grievance with this volume (and potentially the subsequent ones) lies in the investigation process. While the actual investigation is relatively straightforward, it is heavily debated and analyzed by the characters through the lenses of religion and philosophy. Even as an Asian myself, I could only grasp some of the concepts mentioned at a basic level. Consequently, the vast majority of the dialogues (despite being meticulously detailed regarding the real-world aspects of these topics) tend to feel rather tedious and drawn-out for readers who lack that specific background knowledge. If you do not understand or care for these subjects, it can make the reading experience quite discouraging, especially since nearly every single conversation during the investigation touches upon them.
