Now Waiting: Hope for Today When All You Want Is Tomorrow

Rate this book
Your invitation to wait well in a world obsessed with having everything right now. No one likes to wait. But no matter how hassle-free the world around us has become, some things take time. Still, beginnings are fun - finish lines, thrilling. We love and celebrate those mountaintop moments. Life in the middle, however, is often hard and boring, certainly nothing to celebrate. Yet Sarah has discovered that the best parts of life can actually be those very moments between where we are and where we want to be. Waiting is a vital part of our stories, and what we do with our times of waiting matter. Life isn't about navigating around seasons of waiting. It is learning to embrace them. We have spent too much time believing that we are waiting because God has forgotten about us. God can teach us what it means to fully trust him with our lives if we are willing. In Now Waiting, Sarah will explain how you can:
-remain confident in the goodness of God when your season of waiting leaves you feeling discouraged, frustrated, and left out of God's plan;
-embrace seasons of waiting as a time to thrive, not just to endure
-and find hope in the promises of God for today and tomorrow, even when things aren't going the way you planned.

Stop believing the lie that everyone else is living a better story. Live fully convinced of God's plans for you, even during your next season of waiting.

I loved this book. Our society is wanting everything now and doesn’t want to wait. Technology enables this instant gratification without all the waiting. But life doesn’t work like this. The author Sarah Johnson writes beautifully about “ hope for today when all you want is tomorrow “. I loved how she incorporates faith with Bible scripture as she uses every day life examples about learning to wait as some things take time. “Comparison is the thief of joy”. With our society being so into social media, she teaches how we should not compare our lives with this other people’s picture perfect lives on instagram. This holds true for everyone young or old, man or woman. I would recommend this to any of my family or friends. This would be a wonderful book study for small groups or church groups!

I am reviewing a copy of Abilene Christian University Press and Leafwood Press:

In Now Waiting it is pointed out that no one is exempt from the unfair, hard, and tough moments. Most of life isn’t experienced on the mountaintop but is found while navigating the middle. We are reminded that we live in a time where everyone seems to want instant satisfaction, instant success, we are always striving to make things faster, but are we loosing something in that process. We discover too in this book that our place of weakness is also our place of promise.

We are reminded too that being fully convinced that the promises God has promised is knowing that we will see the fulfillment of that promise even when it may not appear so to others.

Sarah Johnson reminds us too that while In the process of moving from where you are to where you desire to be, there will be many opportunities for you to take your focus off Jesus and place it on yourself, but it is important that we keep our focus on Jesus.

I give Now Waiting five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

I was surprised to learn a lot more about seasons of waiting than I expected to. I feel like there’s a big theme about not rushing or hustling in the Christian nonfiction world, but this book is specifically about when you’re in between the beginning and ending of something big, exciting and/or scary. My favorite part about the book overall was that it wasn’t a list of things you should do when you’re waiting for that big job, that new season of life, finally getting that good news, etc. Instead, I felt like it was an assurance that God has not forgotten you in the waiting and that He is doing good work when it feels like you just can’t wait any longer for the end to arrive.

My favorite comparison of waiting seasons was of that to a fruit tree. They take a VERY long time not only to grow tall, and an even longer time to bear fruit. But all of that growing is necessary to get to that point where you can finally enjoy the fruit. Our waiting seasons are much like this.

The only reason I have four instead of five stars was because I felt like there wasn’t an accurate description of what a promise is from God. I felt like sometimes it seemed like the author was saying that a God promises to give us what we want.

I received an ARC from Leafwood Publishers, via NetGalley. This review is my opinion.

Sarah Johnson, in her book, talks about in my case a theme very close to my heart. Being it is not easy, many times feels unfair and painful. What I like about this book is how honest she is, and how to step by step from chapter one she takes us in an eye-opening journey of what waiting is and how we can meet God there in-between. I must say, I have never meet any who has happily say: I’m so happy I have to wait!! Hurrah! In this book, we found encouragement and powerful and necessary truths for everyone who is waiting; especially if you have been living in a long waiting. The thing is we may not like it, but when God needs us to wait, there’s no way we can skip this moment of life. Thank you to Sarah for her willingness to be open and honest and to share what God has taught her and to be a blessing for others. I recommend this book, because, in all my years of waiting, I like that this book is focused on who God is and how we can grow our faith in this time, to surrender His will and timing four our lives.

I can give a million reasons why I have not finished this amazing book, however I just received my copy at the house I moved from on Friday! I have moved for 4 days and still have much to do. As we all know, life is busy with work, children, responsibilities, family, friends......
Exhausted as I am I stopped all “to do’s” and sat down at 9:45 pm to begin reading “Now Waiting”!! Sarah, you are God’s angel and each word you wrote is a true version of what he wants you to share with everyone you touch. I knew from the day I met you at OT, you we’re blessed with many gifts. Everyone that knows me knows I am not a reader, that would require me to sit still; lol. As I began reading, “ Now Waiting” I saw Sarah’s beautiful face and heard her voice! I am so excited for you, Sarah and all the amazing things coming your way! Love love!💗💗💗🙏🙏

With thanks to Net Gallery and the publisher for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I am the most impatient person ever! It's a running joke in my family that the Queen song I want it all is written about me. My biggest struggle in my relationship with God is the waiting. I pray and I want immediate results. This book is beautifully written for those, like me, who don't like to wait. The chapters that struck a particular chord with me were the ones about comparing ourselves to others. Gosh, I do that more than I would like to admit! How many times I've prayed "why have you come through for them and not me?" This book addresses this and provides useful scripture to focus on in these frustrating seasons of waiting.

I'm so glad this book exists and I will be using it as reference for many years to come.

A quick word to the author, Sarah Johnson, please write more books. You have such a wonderful way with words and applying scripture to our lives. I look forward to reading more from you.

In a world of INSTANT EVERYTHING sometimes we get discouraged when God's timing is not RIGHT NOW! This book is an amazing reminder that there is HOPE for TODAY when all we really want is tomorrow. The words on the pages speak life and remind us that we can make the most out of life, even while being in a season of waiting. Do you feel stuck? Like God has forgotten the promises He has made to you? Are you frustrated because you feel like your life is on pause while everyone else around you seems to be flourishing? If that is where you find yourself then this book is for YOU!

Whether we admit it or not, we’ve have all felt forgotten or overlooked by God at some point or another. Sarah does such a great job of showing us the REAL truth about God! That he is for us and he loves us, and he has not forgotten us but instead he is very much in sync with everything we need and desire! For everyone in the middle, in a waiting season, in a season of seemingly closed doors, this book is for you!!!!!!!!!! You. Must. Get. It!!!!

Waiting is hard!! Instant gratification is sometimes a trap that we all fall prey to. We want what we want right now and sometimes we cant see the danger in God operating when we ask. This book is a real and practical resource that will inspire everyone who finds the waiting too difficult. It has encouraged me in so many ways and I know it will do the same for you!

It’s hard to wait, but as we all know waiting is a reality of life. Sarah helps us to find purpose in these inevitable seasons. This book was relatable, encouraging, and helpful to discover how to wait well. It made me realize it isn’t necessary about where we are going, but rather who we are becoming in the process.

4/10⭐️

To be honest, I have no idea how this ended up on my @NetGalley shelf. But it was, so I listened to it. This was about how God is still with you when you’re in a season of waiting. It was a quick listen.

Thanks to @NetGalley and Abilene Christian University Press & Leafwood Publishers for my ARC!

I appreciated the well-rounded take on the topic of waiting, but as the book went on, Johnson became very repetitive. Multiple points made about Scripture go directly against the Scripture she referenced, particularly in chapters 9 and 10.

Sarah has a way with words. She connects with you both personally and spiritually. I’ve never read a book where I felt like the author was right along side me walking through life and pointing me to Jesus each step of the way but that is what Sarah’s book does.

First of all, huge thank you to @netgalley and Leafwood Publishing (@acuedu) for my first ARC! I feel so VIP to get to review this book early!

Second of all, this book. You guys. If you are waiting for something you've been asking and believing God for, you *need* to read this. In today's world of social media and comparison, it's so easy for us to get distracted, bitter, and jealous when we see the very desires of our heart happen for other people instead of us. So if you're in need of a biblical perspective to shift your focus, look no further. Sarah is so gentle and encouraging as she shifts your focus and helps show you how to wait in strength and grace. I know this is going to be such a blessing for some people who feel *stuck* in their waiting. Spoiler alert: you aren't stuck at all. Your season of waiting is also your season of blessing. 4.5 stars!

"But sometimes, he doesn't answer immediately. Jesus didn't immediately rescue the disciples from the storm; and even when he physically arrived, he didn't immediately tell the storm to cease. He allowed the disciples to wait. It doesn't feel good when he allows us to wait, when it feels like he isn't coming to our rescue. But I have heard it before and I will mention it here, God is still moving in our waiting."

Yes he is. Thank you Sarah Johnson for being willing to talk about one of my most hated parts of life... waiting. It's hard. It's messy. It's exhausting. But God doesn't quit moving.
